On Ebay USA, 27 march 2012. 1 bid, 10.000$ auction ended by seller. cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
1956 Jaguar XK140 Roadster with Overdrive---In need of full restoration. Originally, Birch Grey with Red interior and French Grey top as per Heritage Trust along with all matchiing numbers:
Chassis 810758DN
Engine G1893-8
Body F1076-8
Gearbox JLE27652
Motor turns over but has not run in years. It is relatively complete and I you can see the parts that I have to go with it in the photos. There are some small parts that are missing. Some metal work was done on the trunk floor and floor boards. Main frame seems ok. Doors have no play and shut well. Does not seem to every have been in an accident. Dash cluster was changed. Original guages are in there except amp gauge. Odometer shows 39,468. Top assembly and side curtains are there.
According to the Original Jaguar XK Restorers Guide by Philip Porter "My advice is always to buy the worst car you can find and restore it - with a few qualifications. It is vital that certain items of external trim are not missing and can be replated. It is imperative to check that the chassis does not have extensive rot. Ideally the car should have the original engine and be relatively complete, but as far as the body is concerned there is little difference between the dreadful looking car, one that looks shabby and a number of supposedly glamorous examples. Without their paint, the superficially better cars will look just like the dreadful ones; they would therefore cost the same to restore, but would have cost very much more to buy. "
With that said, (by an XK expert-not me) there is, I think, some good value here on a rare car to restore. Can help arrange transport to your door. Any further questions, call Mike at Vantage Sportscars 407.298.5010 or cell 407.620.6295.
