I purchased this car from an estate sale. I believe it to be an unrestored original car. It was first delivered to Paris, France. The owner previous to me lived in California and may have been the second owner. Sometime prior to my ownership, a cam follewer came loose and destroyed the original cylinder head. The replacement head is a B head that was on a 59-67 MKII3.8Lengine, LA3026-9. I have replaced the tires, powder coated the rims, rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced the exhaust system, rebuilt the hydraulic system, ground the valves, rebuilt the carbs, repaired the battery box, and replaced the original radiator with an aluminum one.

Sellers description:
This 1956 Jaguar XJ 140 Fixed Head Coupe is a left hand drive European model originally delivered new in Paris, France. The car retains its original engine block #G7395-8 and original overdrive transmission as confirmed by the included Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. The current owner's father acquired the car 10 years ago from an estate sale in Oregon and dubbed the car his "Grand Old Lady". During his ownership he repaired the car as necessary to keep it in good cosmetic and mechanical condition while keeping the car as original as possible. It was serviced earlier this year with a couple hundred miles since and is ready to go.
The exterior was painted in the current non-original light yellow by a prior owner. The original color is Cream according to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, but the seller liked the color and the patina from the older paint job and decided to leave it as is rather than have it repainted. The paint has signs of age but presents very well overall. There is no evidence of the car ever being hit and no bubbling or other signs of rust underneath the paint. Exterior lights and brightwork are all intact and in good condition, and the bias ply wide whitewall tires on painted steel wheels provide an elegant period look.
Inside the car the distinctive walnut dashboard is in excellent condition. The current owner replaced the carpets, door cards, and rear seats due to wear. The front seat covers were replaced by a prior owner and are in good condition with a comfortable patina.
The 3.4L XK engine is in excellent running condition.. The block is numbers matching but the head was replaced by the previous owner after a dropped valve damaged the original. The pistons were replaced at the same time. The original head is included with the car and could possibly be repaired, but the extent of the damage is unknown. The current owner has replaced the carburetors with rebuilt originals, upgraded to an aluminum radiator with electric fan, reground the valves, and addressed other minor issues as necessary. The numbers matching transmission has the optional Laycock de Normanville overdrive which works well, with the seller having recently sorted the switch wiring.
The undercarriage is in good condition. There is some surface rust visible on the frame and underside of the floor but nothing that appears to have penetrated the sheet metal.
The car is sold with a clear Oregon title and the Jaguar Heritage Certificate is included. The current owner has enjoyed the car consistently, averaging around 1000 miles per year during his ownership. The car is fully serviced and ready for the next owner to drive and enjoy.
