    Sellers description:
Sometimes we are happy that we are able to buy something which is even more special than a standard/ordinary example of a classic car. When we looked at this specific Jaguar it was clear that the car was unique.

We actually knew this car as we sold it some years ago to a very good friend of us. He decided to buy this Jaguar and replace his current Jaguar because of the condition of the car.

The Jaguar had driven at the time approximately 5.000 kilometers since an impressive and very professional nut and bolt restoration.

It was then sold by Jaguar specialist J.D. Classics who implemented some upgrades as well to the car such as improved brakes.

Our friend, the former owner did not drive the Jaguar very often as he has an impressive collection and just don't have the time to drive in all of his cars.

He did decide to improve the gearbox and quite a lot of money has been invested approximately 1 month ago to make the gearbox working even better as new.

This particular Jaguar XK 150 Drophead Coupe is definitely 1 of a kind. The Jaguar has been extremely nice restored, but she started life in the United States where she was delivered to her first owner being L. Mooney in San Francisco.

We were able to buy this Jaguar some years ago as described above and sold her to a good friend. If you sell to a friend you have to be more then certain that you sell something in a very good/perfect condition and in this case we are more then certain.

Before we owned the Jaguar, she was owned by a German gentlemen who bought the Jaguar from well known classic car specialist J.D. Classics in the UK.

Since the restoration, the Jaguar has not been used very often and is therefore still in an outstanding condition throughout.

The Jaguar comes with a Jaguar Daimler heritage trust certificate which is shown here below.

Cosmetically, the car is in an exceptional condition. The paintwork is of extremely high quality and shows some very minor imperfections, such as a very small scratch of 1 centimeter at the bonnet.

The chrome is also excellent, including the wheels which are currently painted in the exterior color which makes the car looking slightly bigger but we can offer you a set of chrome wheels as well if you prefer chrome above body painted wheels.

All badges, glass, lights, and lenses are in perfect condition as well.

The interior of this Jaguar is like new. It has been fully restored in it's original specification and with the correct type of leather and carpets.

All the knobs and meters are in original but fully restored condition and all working fine.

It is relatively easy to recognize the quality of a Jaguar by taking away some carpets and look in the trunk area of the car but this car can be checked almost everywhere as it is impressively nice restored, also on the inside.

The engine bay is nicely detailed, and correct in terms of finishes and equipment. Present is the often missing window washer bottle, among other original details. The Jaguar is fitted with some extra improvements such as an aluminium radiator and an alternator dynamo.

The underside of the Jaguar is extremely nice as well. It is clear that the Jaguar has been extremely proper restored. Since the work was completed, the rily been a fair weather driver since the work was completed.

If you drive this specific example it is immediately clear that this must be one of the best/better driving XK 150s. It is unbelievable how fast this car is but also how impressively comfortable. The engine is running extremely nice and has been tuned on such a way that it is fast but also calm when the gearbox ends up in its overdrive gear on the fourth gear.

The engine is strong, well-tuned, and powerful, the brakes are progressive and capable, the suspension tight and compliant, and the steering direct and precise.

The transmission works properly and is highly satisfying.

Altogether, this Jaguar is ready to drive and use for fantastic events throughout the world.

    Auction description:

    Lot Number 196

    1959 Jaguar XK 150 3.4 Drophead Coupé

    RM | Sotheby's - PARIS 2019

    Chassis No. S 837992 DN

    Engine No. V 6247-8

    Body No. P7254

Original left-hand-drive example with desirable Laycock de Normanville overdrive fitted Matching-numbers engine and body

Fully restored in the last five years

Chassis no. S 837992 DN left the Browns Lane production line on 2 January 1959 and was delivered new to its first owner, Mr L. Mooney of San Francisco. The car returned to Europe in 1988 when it was imported and registered in France. By the early 2000s, this XK 150 had moved to Germany and was subject to a full body-off restoration in 2004; a quantity of documentation records regular maintenance and use from 1988 through to 2014 along with photos of the restoration. The car was refinished in a period-correct colour combination of dark green over tan, and the restoration has held up very well with signs of only light use. Most importantly, the car retains its original engine and body.

This beautifully presented XK 150 is one of the very best examples of Jaguar’s final and most developed XKs, incapsulating the best of Jaguar: sporting, comfortable and refined.
