Car to be at auction 3/12
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php

Auction description:
Lot 119 - 1955 Jaguar XK140 Fixed Head Coupe
Estimate: €45,000 - €55,000
Registration Number: Greek Historic Registered
Chassis Number: A814505
Finished in Embassy Black with contrasting knock-off wire wheels in red, and the luxurious interior is trimmed in red too. External features include twin exhaust, sounding superb, and fog lights. This splendid example is in excellent all-round condition, as one would expect when it is said by the vendor to have covered only 37,000 miles from new.

Like most Jaguar production in the 1950s the car was initially sold in the USA; the original sales invoice remains in the history file, and the file also contains a declaration certificate and couple of letters from former owners where the low mileage is mentioned. A well-known classic car company called "The Stable" in New Jersey exported it to the UK in 1990 since when the history contains original MoT certificates, service records, and the V5 registration document.

A meticulous restoration of what was clearly a splendid original specimen was conducted by Marque experts between 2004 and 2008; barely used since then, this remarkable car has the additional advantage of carrying both ordinary Greek registration plates, along with historic ones.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
