Sellers description:
1956 JAGUAR XK140 SPECIAL EQUIPMENT FIXED HEAD COUPE
DELIVERED NEW ON 6/21/56 TO THE US EMBASSY IN OSLO NORWAY
THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN STORAGE FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE LAST 3O YEARS . IT HAS BEEN VERIFIED THROUGH THE JAGUAR HERITAGE ARCHIVES THAT IT IS AN ORIGINAL MATCHING NUMBER CAR DELIVERED AS SPECIAL EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATION LESS THE C TYPE HEAD AND WITH A CLOSE RATIO MOSS GEARBOX . ORIGINAL COLORS WERE CREAM WITH RED . IT WAS DELIVERED TO THE US EMBASSY IN OSLO NORWAY ORIGINALLY BEFORE IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE USA . WE RECENTLY REMOVED IT FROM STORAGE AND GOT IT RUNNING AND DRIVING , THOUGH IT WOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED ROAD WORTHY WITHOUT A MORE THOROUGH INSPECTION AND REFURBISHMENT . ENGINE STARTS EASILY AND HAS GOOD OIL PRESSURE , SMOKES A BIT . BRAKES AND CLUTCH OPERATE , NO UNUSUAL NOISES . DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH IS OUT OF ADJUSTMENT BUT OVERALL THE EXTERIOR BODY LOOKS FAIRLY STRAIGHT AND SOLID . NO SIGNS OF ANY PREVIOUS ACCIDENT DAMAGE , THERE ARE SOME OLDER PREVIOUS REPAIRS AND A DECADES OLD REPAINT SHOWING SOME AGE . INTERIOR AND CHROME MATCH THE LOOK . WE ASSUME BY THE CONDITION , IT WAS PROBABLY "RESTORED" IN THE LATE 70'S OR EARLY 80'S , THOUGH THE STANDARDS THEN AND NOW ARE OBVIOUSLY DIFFERENT . ALSO INCLUDED ARE SPARE TIRE , PARTIAL ORIGINAL TOOL KIT , OWNERS MANUAL AND REPRINTS OF ORIGINAL SPARE PARTS BOOK AND REPAIR MANUAL AS WELL AS THE JAGUAR DAIMLER HERITAGE TRUST HERITAGE CERTIFICATE . OVERALL IT WOULD BE A VERY GOOD CAR TO WORK WITH TO MAKE AN EVERYDAY DRIVER TO KEEP IT AS A SURVIVOR TYPE CAR WITH AN ORIGINAL LOOK OR COULD ALSO BE A GREAT BASIS FOR A CONCOURSE TYPE RESTORATION BUT THAT WILL BE THE NEW OWNERS CHOICE . PLEASE NOTE , WE HAVE DECADES OF EXPERIENCE SHIPPING CARS OF ALL TYPES AROUND THE WORLD AND WE CAN HANDLE ALL THE ARRANGEMENTS FOR YOU FROM OUR PORT IN THE USA TO MOST PORTS WORLDWIDE . THE COST OF THIS SHIPPING VARIES BY PORT , PLEASE CHECK WITH US FOR A GENERAL QUOTED ESTIMATE. THE INDICATED MILEAGE IS 64,897 MILES AND THOUGH NOT DOCUMENTED COULD POSSIBLY BE CORRECT . THIS IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE AN ORIGINAL MATCHING NUMBERS XK140 SPECIAL EQUIPMENT COUPE

Car to be at auction 10/13
www.bonhams.com/auctions/21223/lot/543/
Auction description:
7 Oct 2013 14:30 EDT Philadelphia
Motorcars
lot number 543
1956 Jaguar XK140 SE Fixed-Head Coupé
Chassis no. A815713
Engine no. G 8255-8
3,442cc DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine
Twin SU carburetors
190bhp at 5,500rpm
*Numbers matching
*Well optioned example
*Delivered new to the US Embassy in Norway
Built in June of '56, this XK140 SE was delivered new to Louis R. Emme at the US Embassy in Oslo, Norway. While indicated as a Special Equipment Model on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, it is also noted that the C-type cylinder head was not specified for this car--hence the absence of that element today. This could be attributed to the difficulty to find higher octane fuels in Norway at the time.
Known by the current owner for more than a decade this Jag has survived in appealing honest condition. The British racing green paint is an older respray and the interior upholstery has been largely changed or dyed at some point, but the whole car is quite even and honest in its presentation. The provided heritage certificate indicates the car was delivered in crème over red upholstery. It appears the car has never been torn down and fully restored and today is a nice straight car free of any major corrosion issues. The car runs well and is described by the vendor as in driving condition. Cosmetically the car shows nicely and would make an appealing driver or rally machine as is, but one would not be remiss to wish to freshen thing up. Number matching and honestly presented; it is a fine example that with a little bit of work would make an excellent and very usable machine.
Estimate:
US$ 40,000 - 50,000
£25,000 - 31,000
€29,000 - 37,000

May 1, 2024 Update: Our team is currently in the process of restoring this highly original numbers-matching XK-140 MC FHC to that of our Show/Driver level. The Jaguar was built in June of 1956, and delivered new to a Mr. Louis R. Emme at the US Embassy in Oslo, Norway. Known by its most recent owner for more than a decade, the XK-140 MC had been kept in storage for many years, where it maintained a high degree of originality throughout. Once we acquired the 140MC, our team started the restoration process with a complete stripping down to bare metal, before placing it on a rotisserie, and having it’s metal finished, leaded, with all of the body parts fitted to the car and chrome, prepared for primer, sealer, and an eventual coat of paint – as yet to be determined.
Elsewhere in the restoration processes, our team has already rebuilt the XK-140’s engine, while making extensive progress with bodywork; master technicians are going through other major systems of the 140 MC including its fuel, electrical, cooling, and hydraulic systems, while the car’s chrome will be re-plated where necessary. The XK-140 will also receive a completely new, custom-tailored, and fit interior in the correct materials by our master trimmer.
