This rare Drophead Coupe is one of only 300 that were ever produced with the very desirable automatic transmission.
I have owned this car for 20 something years, and will do my best to describe it as accurately as possible, so that you will have no surprises.
To start with, I have documentation from the JAGUAR FACTORY at Browns Lane, Coventry, England as to the EXACT SPECIFICATIONS on this car. This amounts to a BUILD SHEET for the car, which states that it was special equipment DHC, fitted with 190 h.p. engine, AutomaticTransmission, fog lamps, windshield wipers, wire wheels, and painted in PASTEL BLUE.
It was built in APRIL, 1956 AND SHIPPED TO CHARLES HORNBURG (I THINK THAT HE WAS THE IMPORT DEALER) IN MAY, 1956.
I originally bought the car from a friend of mine, who had bought it in New Jersey and just wanted to turn it over for some fast cash. I drove the car the first day I owned for a total of about 60 miles, before I stored it for a couple of years. Some years later, we started the restoration by stripping the car down to the frame and reconditioning parts that were removed. The frame (which is perfect, no rot) and all parts were cleaned, sandblasted, primed and painted. There are mechanical parts that still need to be installed or fitted, such as brakes, hoses, lines, rear exhaust and some suspension pieces. There are boxes and boxes of new, recondition, rechromed, primed, some painted parts. Thousands of dollar were spent on parts alone, besides all the hours and hours of labor. Here is a rough break down of the parts that come with the car.

I AM SURE THAT THERE ARE OTHER PARTS THAT NEED TO BE BOUGHT
WORK THAT STILL HAS TO BE DONE. AS I HAVE STATED, THE CAR HAS TO HAVE THE RESTORATION COMPLETED. SOMETHING THAT IS FINISHED NOW, MAY NOT BE FINISHED TO SOMEONE ELSES STANDARD OR TASTE.
THE BODY, WHICH HAS BEEN COMPLETELY SANDBLASTED AND METAL REPAIRED IN SOME AREAS, HAS MOST BODY WORK DONE AND WAS TOP COATED IN A BASE COAT OF CORRECT PASTEL BLUE PAINT. YOU WILL GET THE URETHANE PAINT CODE WITH THE CAR.
THE FRONT AND BACK BODY PIECES ARE TEMPORARILY BOLTED TO THE FRAME. THE RIGHT DOOR WAS ALSO TEMPORARILY PUT IN POSITION FOR THE PURPOSE OF TAKING PICTURES ONLY. MOST THINGS SHOULD BE REMOVED, THEN FINISHED, REPOLISHED, MEASURED, ALIGNED, SHIMMED, AND REINSTALLED TO PROPER SPECS AND WORKING ORDER. BELIEVE ME, I AM STATING THINGS TO THE SAFE SIDE, BUT MOST OF THE HARD WORK IS ALREADY DONE, YOU JUST NEED TO RE-CHECK AND FINISH THE CAR.
THE CHASSIS AND THE SUSPENSION PARTS WERE PROPERLY RECONDITIONED. SOME COMPONENTS STILL HAVE TO BE INSTALLED. THE ENTIRE DRIVE TRAIN IS COMPLETELY INSTALLED. LOOK AT THE CHASSIS, DRIVE TRAIN AND SUSPENSION PICTURES THAT WILL SHOW ALL THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
THE ENGINE I DROVE THE CAR WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. OIL PRESSURE WAS STRONG AND STEADY. BEFORE WE STARTED THE RESTORATION, A COMPRESSION CHECK WAS DONE WITH 125-135 psi ACROSS ALL CYLINDERS. AFTER THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED, THE OIL PAN AND COVERS WERE OPENED TO INSPECT THE INTERNALS. BEARING WERE GOOD AND IT LOOKED LIKE OTHER PARTS HAD BEEN RECENTLY CHANGED AS WELL. NEW GASKETS AND SEALS.
THE TRANSMISSION AFTER THE ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WERE PULLED TO START THE RESTORATION, THE TRANSMISSION WAS SENT FOR INSPECTION TO A JAGUAR BORG WARNER REBUILDER. THE TRANS WAS GONE THRU, AND NOTHING BUT CLEANING AND ONE SEAL WERE DONE. THE TRANS WAS IN GREAT SHAPE.
