This 1956 Jaguar XK140 Drop-Head Coupe is a LHD example that was originally finished in Baltic Grey over a red interior. It is reportedly one of 291 M-series models built for 1956 and was previously registered in Texas and Oklahoma. For the past 40 years, the car has been off the road and stored indoors. The seller's family acquired it 33 years ago without a powertrain installed, which is how it remains to this day. This XK140 is now being offered as a rolling project with a Jaguar Trust Certificate, an XKE gearbox, and a clear Pennsylvania title.

A repaint in a darker shade of grey was performed many years ago. Notable issues include a cracked windshield along with evidence of prior damage on the nose and leading edge of the bonnet. Lower sections of the body have also rusted through, as has the battery box.

The soft-top frame, headlight assemblies, tail lamps, much of the trim, and the rear bumpers accompany the car and have been photographed in the gallery below.

The wood floorboards are removed from the cabin. A pair of seat bottoms are pictured in the gallery below along with the factory instrument panel, which is missing the oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges.

In factory specifications, power would have been supplied by 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six backed by a 4-speed gearbox with overdrive. However, the original engine and transmission were separated from the car over 30 years ago. A 4-speed gearbox sourced from a donor XKE is included with the sale.

The included Jaguar Heritage Certificate lists a build date of October 11, 1956 and confirms the original exterior, top, and upholstery colors.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
