Car listed as sold at auction 10/17
www.classicdriver.com/en/car/jaguar/xk-140/1957/488419

Auction description:
1957 Jaguar XK 140
Automobiles in Drouot - Leclere Motorcars | Paris, 22 October
Estimate $105 849 - $129 371

(Web translation from French to English):

The proposed car offers matching chassis and engine numbers (serial number A819048DN, engine number G9188-8). This is an exceptional "fake first hand". Her first owner bought it new at Delcroix in Paris and separated after a while. Then, regretting her gesture, bought it from her second owner after three years. It has been maintained and pampered by its owner, a true enthusiast, for forty years and its spectacular general condition reflects its attachment. It has always been stored in the dry and is today as if we had raised the bell that covered it, complete with all its original equipment and a painting with a beautiful patina due to a restoration dating back a few years that just ask to regain its full brilliance. The fit of the doors is perfect, the wheel arches have a layer of anti-gravel protection and the chrome in good condition is barely stitched. The hood canvas in good condition has a slight hitch and the soft rear window is yellowed by the sun, but all, like the rest of the car, is in a remarkable original state. Inside, we find the same flattering patina as outside with varnished woodwork in good condition. The engine started a quarter turn when it was removed from its shed and is equipped with a recent fuel pump. It is associated with a 4-speed Moss manual transmission whose overdrive button is to be reviewed. After the car has been idle for a long time, the brakes (Cooper Craft calipers that do not conform to the front) must be overhauled before setting off. The Michelin 6.00 R16 X tires have a low wear of 10%, but are more than 10 years old. There is a battery switch in the cabin and the car is equipped with 2 motor-fans, an alternator, a power steering rack and stainless steel silencers. A great opportunity to acquire a Jaguar XK, French since the beginning, beautifully preserved with its updated papers. An exceptional ensemble.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
