True Barn Find: California car purchased new in Pasadena, CA, remaining in the State this entire time. Discovered in this tin shed where it has been stored for the last seventeen years. The owner claims it was driven just three years ago. Evidently a numbers-matching car with exception of the head which has been replaced. Odometer reads 93k miles. Below is copy supplied to me the the owner of the last sixty years:
"Really cute out of the barn! It has the original jack and knock off hammer, original tattered tool kit and tools, record of repairs, tonneau cover to match top, boxes of lucas parts, starter, manifold, a new stainless steel dual exhaust that was never put in, Jaguar plate that goes in the front, a racing windshield, and a few other items. I will be able to find old photos of it with original color and plates. Great uncle bought in new in 1953, my dad bought it from him in 55, I bought it from my dad in 1966. It has under a 100,000 miles on it. It has stayed in California in a garage it's whole life."
The car was recently inspected by a British Garage. The owner writes:
"Hi Dave, thank you for the visit and call. On this list, brakes no longer locked up, battery box still holds batteries, fuel tank is rusty, but no holes and float works, fuel pump makes funny noise, don't know about the suspension bearings, splines, front wheels- it drove smoothly and steered as hard as ever when I last drove it (3-4 years ago). They did not oil cylinders before testing, as recommended. Mechanic from the British garage said it should be run for a good half hour before testing, and after soaking for a week. He also checked the undercarriage and the whole body - no rust, no deterioration, no dents, liked the engine compartment and felt the front was solid. It sat so long because I was unable to find new batteries for it, they had changed the size, now a 12 volt instead of 2 6v. And it ran like a top the day it was parked. The garage said they could get it running, "no problem" for $2500, but did recommend a full safety check before driving. Common sense. I will send you another picture of it outside, on it's way for the checkup. And more info as I think of it, thank you again."
