Car to be at auction 3/26
www.osenat.com/en/lot/174311/32684408-1953-jaguar-xk120-roadster-carte-grise-de- ...
Auction description:
1953 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster
Estimate €60,000 - €80,000
Osenat - Automobiles de Collection, Fontainebleau, France 23 March, 2026
Lot 49
- Carte Grise de Collection
- Chassis number 673458
- Imported from California at the end of 2001, kept by the same French owner since 2002;
- Engine and clutch rebuilt in 2003, upholstery redone at time of purchase.
Produced from 1948 to 1954, the XK120 series initiated Jaguar's famous line of post-war sports cars. Distinguishable by its sleek lines, it established itself as the world's fastest production car. Powered by the famous 160 hp in-line six-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts, the XK120 was produced as a roadster, cabriolet (Drophead Coupé) and coupé (Fixed Head Coupé), with a total production run of 12,055 units.
The model presented here is a 1953 left-hand drive (OTS) roadster. It features green bodywork combined with a tan leather-trimmed interior. Its known history indicates an import from California in late 2001, where the vehicle had benefited from an early restoration (not documented by invoices). It was then acquired in 2002 by its current owner, who has kept it for over twenty years.
At the time of this purchase in the early 2000s, the upholstery underwent a complete overhaul. Mechanically, a major overhaul was undertaken in 2003, including engine rebuild and clutch replacement. Recent follow-up is supported by a maintenance file. In terms of aesthetics, the old American restoration has evolved over the years: although it shows some wear and tear, it now gives the car a homogeneous patina consistent with its status as a regularly driven vehicle.
An emblematic British roadster with a stable ownership history, benefiting from mechanics that have been made reliable in France, and displaying the patina of a regularly used vehicle. Now more accessible than ever, XK120s are true automotive myths.
The description of the vehicle is based on information provided by the seller, who remains solely responsible for its condition. The House of Osenat verifies their consistency.
