Additional description from above auction:

LOT: 153
Chassis No. S673578

- Original, restored US-delivery SE-specification model
- About 37,000 miles, upgraded for drivability and reliable touring
- JCNA Regional Best of Show Winner 2009 (99.46/100 points)

With just five owners from new, this US-delivery 1953 XK120 SE Roadster benefits from a body-up restoration completed in 1998 by Jaguar expert Mike Lundquist of Salt Lake City. The body was refinished in factory-original Battleship Grey, the chrome brightwork was restored, and a new top and tonneau were fitted. In 2010, Dale Hancock Interiors of Salt Lake City installed leather seats supplied by Original Specification Jaguar Interiors in the original red and biscuit colors.

Under the current owner in 2008, Will Jamison rebuilt the “M”-specification engine, with the cylinders bored and the head ported. In 2008, he also installed a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, allowing 75-mph cruising at 2,500 rpm. Other features include an electric cooling fan, an XJ6 coolant recovery tank, electronic ignition, an electronic fuel pump, a single 12-volt battery and an immaculately detailed engine bay. Because of the car’s low mileage, superb condition and recent upgrades, it was recently tested in September 2010 on the Colorado Grand and performed faultlessly.

The trunk is complete with a matching spare wheel and tire, plus a correct jack and a complete original and/or correct tool kit including a Thor hammer. Other items include a clear front-end bra, new seat belts, a side view mirror, custom soft luggage for the restored side curtains, a stainless-steel exhaust, Dayton 60-spoke chrome wire wheels and Firestone Cavallino radial tires.

Since acquisition by the current owner in 2007, this XK120 SE has earned class awards and won Best of Show in a regional JCNA concours. With approximately 37,000 miles, which are believed accurate, this matching-numbers XK120 SE is complete with a JDHT certificate, the original four-speed gearbox and driveshaft, the original and a new owner’s manual, spare parts, two XK120 books and the JCNA Best of Show plate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
