This car comes with its British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirming it to have been supplied new as an SE model. The ‘SE’ designation, literally Special Equipment meaning the addition of wire wheels and a dual rear exhaust for an extra $350.00. It was built on 27 August 1953 and shipped to Jaguar distributor Max Hoffman in New York, from whom it was sold new to its first owner Charles Krauss of Cresskill New Jersey on 27 January 1954.

It is reported that the XK had an extensive restoration in the early 1990s, which included the refurbishing of every mechanical component, and refinishing the cosmetics to a very high standard in its original colors of Pastel green with a suede green interior. Following the restoration it was shown at many Jaguar (JCNA) events always scoring 99 or higher out of 100 points.

The car still shows as if the restoration was just completed, and is a pleasure to drive. It comes with numerous awards and the B.M.I.H.T. certificate, original tools and books, and is ready for the concours circuit or just to be driven and enjoyed.

This 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was produced in August 1953 and delivered to the Hoffman Motor Company of New York City. A refurbishment performed during the 1990s involved repainting the car in green over green leather upholstery and rebuilding its 3.4-liter inline-six. Features include a four-speed manual transmission, 16″ wire-spoke wheels, fender-mounted mirrors, four-wheel drum brakes, a pair of SU carburetors, and a dual exhaust system. This XK120 SE is now offered with a tonneau cover, a tool roll, tire tools, a tire pump, and a transferable New York registration document.

The car was refinished in Pastel Green during the refurbishment and features an aluminum hood, doors, and trunk lid as well as fender-mounted mirrors, a split front bumper, and rear bumperettes.

Black-finished 16″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with chrome two-eared knock-off nuts and mounted with Blockley tires. A spare is stowed under a shelf in the trunk along with a tire pump and tools. Suspension consists of control arms, torsion bars, telescopic dampers, and an anti-roll bar up front along with a live axle, lever arm shocks, and semi-elliptic leaf springs out back. Braking is provided by 12″ Lockheed drums at all four corners.

The cockpit features Suede Green leather seats with color-coordinated dash and door pads, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include a heater, a locking glovebox, a chrome passenger grab handle, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a reverse-sweep tachometer with a 5,200-rpm redline and an inset clock as well as a 140-mph speedometer, a Lucas ammeter, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 50 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The rebuilt 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with dual overhead camshafts, aluminum cylinder heads, and a pair of SU sidedraft carburetors. A replacement dual exhaust system is installed.

Engine number W9622-8S stamped on the cylinder head matches the number that is stamped on the engine block and the brass commission plate, photos of which can be viewed in the gallery. The 8S suffix denotes a Special Equipment (SE)-specification engine that was equipped with higher lift camshafts than the standard XK120 and was rated at 180 horsepower when new.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The car is accompanied by a tonneau cover, a tool roll, tire tools, and a tire pump.

The car is registered using the engine number W96228S.
