1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
Gorgeous Red over Black Color Combination
Upgraded Mechanicals for Reliable Performance
US Delivery, Left-Hand-Drive Model
Fully Restored in 1985 and Expertly Maintained by Specialists
Accompanied by JDHT Certificate and Service Records
According to its JDHT Certificate, this Roadster was completed on September 16, 1953, and finished in red with a Biscuit and black interior. Nine days later, it was dispatched to Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles, which sold it to J.H. Ratloff of Cypress, California. Reportedly, the car was later owned by NBC newscaster Clete Roberts, hence the vintage NBC sticker on the windscreen.
In 1985, during restoration, the original 3.8-litre engine was replaced by a 1967 XKE 4.2 unit with a full-synchromesh four-speed gearbox. Additionally, front disc brakes were installed with 15″ chrome E-Type wheels. In 2007, Wellwood Auto Restoration of Ventura, California, embarked on a recommission of the Roadster, including new brakes and tires, a carburetor and fuel system rebuild, and a repaint. The Jaguar was then sold to the current owner.
Accompanied by extensive documentation, this striking red over black XK120 has since been thoughtfully maintained by Wellwood. Described by the owner as his “hot rod classic” due to its upgraded mechanicals and ultimate driveability, the XK120 presented here offers a great opportunity for an enthusiastic driver to own one of Jaguar’s most coveted prizes.
