This 1954 Jaguar XK120 roadster was purchased from the original owner in August 1959 with 64k miles. The car has been owned by the seller's mother and father in-law for the past 58 years and is reported to be an M model, as designated by the Special Equipment description on the included Heritage Trust certificate. The current owner's late husband volunteered as an archivist for Jaguar of America in Mah Wah, New Jersey, and the car was displayed in the Owls Head, Maine Transportation Museum from 1999-2002. Power comes from the believed-original 3.4-liter twin-cam six, which is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. Originally Birch Grey over Red hides, this XK120 was repainted black during a 1990s restoration, which also included an interior refresh. The car has only been driven a few hundred miles since and is now being offered by the owner's son-in-law with partial records back to the 1970s and a Maryland title from 1959.

The lacquer repaint reportedly retains a good shine, with small defects present as highlighted in the walk-around video below. All exterior trim is accounted for, and the seller states that the chrome finish is showing wear and pitting on the left tail lamp and windshield frame, along with some delamination around the windshield edges.

As an M model, the seller states that this Jaguar came factory-equipped with a dual-outlet exhaust system, stiffer suspension, and wire wheels. As part of the 1990s restoration, a new removable canvas roof was installed and is included with the sale. Within the past twelve months, approximately $10k in service work has been completed, including a brake system overhaul.

The interior was also refreshed during the restoration, including new wooden floor boards, replacement Connolly hides, wool carpets, and new door panels.

All instrumentation and features work to the seller's knowledge. The odometer currently displays 13,600 miles and has rolled once. 113k is said to be correct based on known history from new, 58 years of ownership, and service documentation.

Power is derived from an M-specification 3.4-liter inline-six, which reportedly produced 180 horsepower when new. Mechanicals are stock to the seller's knowledge, including the non-synchro 4-speed gearbox. Within the past year, all fluids have been changed, the carburetors were rebuilt, a mechanical tune-up was completed, and new batteries were installed. Partial maintenance documentation dates back to the 1970s and reports that the head, valves, and guides were overhauled at 106k miles.

Head stamping #F1171-8S and matches the Heritage Trust certificate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
