Ebay item 10/27/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-XK120-SE-Fresh-Restoration-Well-known-shop-Invest ...
Opening bid $50,000 reserve not met, 1 bid 6 days left in auction. 56k miles.
Sellers description:
I was able to purchase this car in Florida in 2005 from a fellow that fancied himself a Jaguar restorer. I flew to Florida to inspect the cars. I actually had my choice from among about a dozen. The choice was made easier because they had all been stripped of their paint so there was no hiding any flaws in the metal, so I bought 3 of them. One of which was this SE car. The restoration was begun in mid-2007. The car surpasses every expectation which I had for it. It is a Heritage Certificate qualified car with an all original, matching number drive train. The colors have been varied from the original pastels to bring you a drop dead Black car with a Bull's Blood RED Leather Interior. The leather rolls on the dash, doors and body edges are beautiful. This is a BAS created Interior. In fact, it took longer to get the Interior than it took to do any other part of the restoration but I can assure you it was worth the wait.
Our shop leader, my partner, Troy, has several decades of working hands on with Jaguars. He creates a beautiful, as well as mechanically sound, restoration of the engine, gearbox and the Chassis. The front suspension was taken apart to the last fitting. The guys were on the press for days reconstructing all of the many parts to as new specs. The Bushings on this car are all in the original style so that the car could be taken on the show circuit since they can be seen. When the front end was complete I suspect that "better than new" would be an understatement.
The Interior and top were installed by our professional team. Our painter is in house. He also does the body work. He is always adamant about there not being a wave or distortion on the body at all. There is absolutely no filler. Any flaws discovered after the media blast were repaired with new metal.
The view of the reverse of this car is breath taking. With the copper, brass, and various materials all as a backdrop to a chassis that is absolutely as well restored as the topside. The engine compartment is a work of art, not simply from the beauty instilled by Jaguar when it was designed but by JAG Enterprises in its restoration.
I think Philip Porter, in his volume, "Original Jaguar XK, The Restorer's Guide" says it well, "Above and beyond 120 specifications, SE cars - bearing an S prefix to the chassis number and an S suffix for the engine number - were fitted with 3/8in lift camshafts, a lightened flywheel(later standard), a special crankshaft damper (comprising a steel inertia disc and a special rubber mix, and stamped 'Comp'), uprated valve springs(from engine W.9487), stiffer rear springs (later standard), wire wheels wit knock-off spinners(disc wheels could be supplied to special order), a Burgess dual exhaust system, stiffer torsion bars of 1in diameter, and 8:1 compression pistons (but 7:1 and 9:1 could be 'supplied when called for').
"Wire wheels required different front brake drums, splined non-studded hubs and a different hub bearing grease nipple, plus studs and nuts for attaching the hub to the drum."
It seems that dual Racing Screens were supplied standard as well until 1952, when it was reduced to a single. Some time in 1953 they were no longer supplied when it was felt that US Jaguar Dealers were stealing them and reselling them.
There are some concessions to the times. We have occasionally used a braided line as opposed to exposing you to the possible danger of a rotted rubber line that would have been authentic. Likewise, the castle nuts have often been replaced with Nylox nuts to avoid shakes and rattles that could result from the passage of time causing the originals to back off. By and large though the restoration is true to the original. We have made no changes to any original equipment or design, simply the occasional fastener that the factory would have used had they been available at the time.
The car is intended to be of Museum Quality, where it may not meet some Concours standard, we will gladly undertake a commission to change to a certain spec any items the buyer desires, be it for personal preference or for Show Points.
This car is, according to the Heritage Certificate and inspection, Chassis Number S 675714, Engine Number F 3294-8S, Body Number F 7994, Gearbox Number JL 23120. A manual transmission, of course. The Exterior Color , as restored, NOT the Heritage Certified Colour, is a glorious deep Black, the Interior Color, again, as restored, NOT the Heritage colour, is Red. Hood (soft top) colour - Black.
The car was taken down to the last screw and rebuilt as new. The only deviations would be the use of Nylox Nut, as noted, the use of Stainless steel brake lines instead of cadnium, A Stayfast hood (soft top) instead of Everflex, black outside, tan inside from Coventry - because of the pure quality, SS Exhaust instead of one that rusts, Urethane paint instead of cellulose. The car was reconstructed from, as possible, the existing parts - each part refinished to new condition, Where necessary - like the interior(BAS), which was constructed of Period Correct Leather - the parts were sourced from reliable British car specialist, and when needed, from reproduction, like new - such as the tyres.
Many NOS parts were used such as the Wheel Cylinders, Brake Return Springs, and hardware at all four corners. It has completely new E-brake Assembly (NOS), from the handle to the end of the cable. The Brake Shoes were all Relined with all brass and cooper retainers.
The Cam and Crank were Polished, the Oil Journeys were drilled, New Oil Pump, new Upper and Lower chain and tensioners. It has new correct forged pistons, the block is Standard Bore (!), resurfaced and polished with zero wear, the upper and lower Payen gaskets.
The head has SS valves, bronze guides and hardened seats. New water pump, New Gear Reduction Starter (the original starter was rebuilt and is in our inventory. It can be made available to the buyer. It has a new Radiator, Generator and Regulator from Coventry. We installed a correct Cloth Wiring Harness, rebuilt instruments by Nisonger of Mamaroneck, New York. There are NOS switches, fuel pump, shocks and Heater Matrix (core).
The rear end gears looked like new but there is a new Pinion Bearing Seal, Outer wheel seals and bearings. The GearBox was like new, nevertheless, it was disassembled, replaced front and rear bearing seals, shifting forks as well as gear collars. The gears were virtually new but were re-shimmed.
The car has an NOS fuel tank, the entire fuel delivery system is new. New Dayton wire wheels, five of them, SS and chrome. Re-maned Firestone WWW, Gum Dipped, 6.00 - 16
This car has NOT been used as a driver since restored. It has been professional restored by our staff, suppliers and subs (where appropriate); test driven (approximately 2 miles), then stored in our climate controlled garage and offered for sale. You can buy it to use as a trailer queen, a show car, an addition to collection or simply as a driver but the car is 'as new'. We do not show cars. This car is a great purchase for someone who would like to bring a new car to the show circuit, although we will not make any representation about the judging rules to which you might be subjected, according to category shown, etc.
The car is ABSOLUTELY free of bondo. It has had smoothing agents applied to the body as it went through multiple spraying and hand blocking because, as most are aware, the panels were not always as smooth as we would anticipate today. The end result is a paint job that borders on Museum.
The accepted authority on reporting value on collector cars is the CPI (cars of particular interest) by Black Book. The Sept-Oct 2008 book a #2 car at $173,700 and defines a #2 as "Vehicle in nearly perfect condition. It has either been professionally restored to very high standards or is a perfectly preserved original. Cars may be driven, but very sparingly. Similar in condition to a #2 vehicle, true #1 vehicles will be worth more than this vehicle"
This is, in our opinion, a #1 vehicle. It is better than as new. It has not be subjected to the road and so is in the same condition as a car which you would have purchased new from the dealer's showroom floor.

Lot #79365
This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was completed on June 2, 1954 and distributed in the US by Charles Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California. Power is supplied by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and the car is finished in black over red leather upholstery. Features include a black soft top, dual SU carburetors, chrome bumperettes, and polished knock-off wire wheels. A body-off refurbishment was carried out between 2009 and 2015, and the car was subsequently acquired by the current owner. Work in preparation for the sale has reportedly consisted of a carburetor adjustment, fluid changes, and replacement of the spark plugs. This XK120 is being offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a tool kit, photos from the refurbishment, a Jaguar Production Record Trace certificate, and New Hampshire registration.
Finished from the factory in Pastel Blue, the body was removed from the frame and repainted its current shade of black during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior features include a removable black soft top, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumperettes. The seller notes that the removable side curtains are no longer present.
Polished wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with Firestone whitewall tires. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. Braking is through drums at all four corners.
The cabin was trimmed in blue leather from the factory and was reupholstered in red during prior ownership. Equipment includes a passenger-side grab handle, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, and map pockets in both doors.
A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 54k miles, a handful of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Work in preparation for the sale is said to have included fluid changes, carburetor adjustments, and replacement of the spark plugs.
The cylinder head stamping is shown above, and a photo of the engine block stamping is provided in the gallery below.
The Jaguar Production Record Trace certificate shows the factory colors and identification numbers, along with a completion date of June 2, 1954.
Chassis number S675714 is on the registration omits the the second “7” and adds “XK120” at the end. The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its New Hampshire registration that expired in 2019.
