Lot #101736

This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster is finished in red over tan leather upholstery and power is provided by a 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a tan soft-top, chrome-plated 16″ knock-off wire wheels, dual SU carburetors, a PerTronix electronic ignition, an aluminum radiator, and Smith gauges. The selling dealer acquired the car in December 2022 and subsequently removed the front bumper and added driving lights. This XK120 SE roadster is now offered with removable side curtains, recent service records, the removed front bumper, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Ohio title.

The car was originally black, and the color change to red was reportedly carried out in the 1990s. Exterior features include a tan soft top, 7″ driving lights, chrome rear bumperettes, and dual exhaust outlets. The front bumper has been removed and is included in the sale, along with a set of removable side curtains.

The chrome 16” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knockoffs and wrapped in 185-series Michelin Radial tires. A full-size spare is mounted in the trunk. Braking is from drums at all four corners. Suspension and brake overhauls in 2014 included rebuilding the shocks, installing a stainless-sleeved brake master cylinder and wheel cylinders, turning the drums, and replacing the brake shoes, rear springs, tie rod ends, and limiting straps.

The cabin was trimmed in red from the factory and has since been reupholstered in tan leather with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Lap belts are fitted for both occupants, and additional features include a height-adjustable rear-view mirror, a heater, a passenger-side grab handle, and map pockets in both doors.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a tan dash panel housing Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and is equipped with a PerTronix electronic ignition system. An aluminum radiator and electric fan have also been added. The carburetors were rebuilt in 2017. Oil leaks are noted.

Cylinder head stamping F4019-8S matches the chassis plate and Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and identification numbers, along with a build date of August 24, 1954.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
