The Jaguar XK120, introduced in 1948, was an instant hit on both sides of the Atlantic, with its brand new 3.4 Litre 6 cylinder DOHC XK engine. It was a fast, beautiful, and a romantic car with a fully retractable hood and wind up windows, making it a must-have accessory for Hollywood stars such as Clark Gable who had one in period. In the UK, it excelled on the race track and became a successful rally car.

The XK120 Drophead Coupe emerged as a response to the market's desire for a more instantly usable hood and a little more 'Old English' charm and refinement.
