Car was at auction 2/22

burnsandcoauctions.com.au/portfolio/jaguar-xk140/

1955 Jaguar XK140 Coupe

Transmission: Manual with overdrive

Engine Type: 6 Cylinder

VIN/Chassis: S804519DN / J5755

Engine Number: 635885

Build Date: 28 November 1955

Odometer Reading: 65350 Miles Showing

Recently discovered in a shed in Blackburn Vic and being sold to finalise a deceased estate.

Here for genuine sale the car presents in “as found condition??? and appears to be complete in most respects.

Boasts C type head and is manual transmission with overdrive.

Given the below provenance we believe mileage shown to be original.

The car was first registered on the 7th December 1955 in Coventry, England (chassis completed on 28th November 1955) and home delivered to Derek.E.Jolly of Robe Terrace,Menindie,SA to the of Dominion, Adelaide.

Derek Jolly, a wealthy horticulturalist from South Australia used it mainly as a tow car for his racing specials (Decca I,II,III)… see photos.

This car was advertised for sale in February 1961 and by 1962 the car appears to have been sold to the current estate without having been further registered in Vic as the car currently still has the original Sth Australian number plates 7329.

A rare find and sure to keenly sought given its originality and condition.

THIS IS WITHOUT DOUBT A ONCE IN A GENERATION OPPORTUNITY

(Some information and photos supplied courtesy of Terry McGrath Motoring Archives)

The full history of this car will appear in the soon to be released book: “The Jaguar XK140 in the Southern Hemisphere” by John Elmgreen & Terry McGrath, Sample of the front cover of the book attached

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
