A complete/restored car with this chassis number is being offered for auction by H & H in England October 2011. It is said to be dating from October 1954 (note that it is said to be 1956 above). Colour is British Racing Green and it has had some modifications including a 5 speed box and disc brakes all round. The engine number is given as G1212-85 and registration number 240 YUG. Obviously it has changed a lot from the earlier descriptions above!!

Lot Number: 77

1954 Jaguar XK140 Roadster

Reg Number: 240 YUG

Chassis Number: S810070

Engine Number: G1212-85

Cc: 3400

Body Colour: B.R.G.

Trim Colour: Cinnamon

MOT ExpiryDate: July 2012

The now right-hand drive XK140 being offered, is a Roadster model that was manufactured on October 27th 1954 and whose British Racing Green two-seater coachwork is teamed with Cinnamon-coloured interior trim. '240 YUG' apparently started life as a left-hand drive North American C-Type specification, rust-free car and was imported by the vendor from a deceased estate. The Jaguar is understood to have benefited from an extensive mechanical and body restoration by a range of concours winning companies. Along the way it has also been equipped with a number of desirable upgraded parts including: a straight-port cylinder head, overhauled two inch HD8 SU carburetters, stainless steel exhaust, five-speed manual gearbox, XK150 disc brakes all round, alternator, Kenlowe fan, radiator and alloy fuel tank etc. The car has also been rewired and rides on new wheels and tyres.

The vendor regards this splendid looking and undoubtedly rapid cat as having "A1" bodywork, paintwork, trim, engine and transmission. It is now being offered for sale with MOT valid until July of next year.

The original body from this car F10074 was reported to have been imported into Australia perhaps in the early 2000s fitted to XK140 OTS S812711. This is consistent with the eBay ad above from 2007 for the chassis and a variety of other parts.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
