Sellers description:
1955 Jaguar XK140 MC Roadster
s/n S810574, engine no. G1827-8S
Dark blue Metallic with Black Interior
This particular car comes out of long term dry storage in the San Francisco Bay Area, having been owned by the same keeper for approximately 35 years. The car runs, drives, and is solid. It saw some restorative work many years ago, although this work is showing its age.
The car has a nice body which displays good gaps and generally straight panels. The paint is older and while glossy, it was not done to the standards to which this car would be restored today. There are some scratches and surface imperfections throughout. The car retains most of its MC equipment, including dual exhaust, and wire wheels. The chrome is generally good although there is pitting and peeling in some locations and some scratching in others. The glass and lights are in very good condition.
The interior is complete and was redone many years ago, other than the carpets and center armrest, which were recently redone with high quality materials. The remainder of the new interior kit, in high quality light grey leather, is included with the car, but not installed. The gauges, switches, steering wheel, seats, and door panels are present and correct for the car, which would make a correct and complete restoration easy to perform. They are intact and in good older condition. The top frame is present but needs restoration and a new black canvas top (uninstalled) is included with the car. The side curtains and dash roll and interior perimeter roll are missing.
The engine compartment is correct and fairly clean but is unrestored in appearance. The block matches to the chassis but the cylinder head does not. The trunk was restored in correct material in light grey. appears to be original and is intact with vinyl upholstery, plywood trunk floor, and a variety of accessories including spare, tool roll, tools, jack, and grease gun.
The car runs and drives fairly well, although it is reluctant when cold. The undercarriage appears to be quite solid and free of corrosion. The mechanical components are correct in appearance but unrestored and a stainless steel exhaust appears to have been installed fairly recently.
This is an excellent car to drive as is with patina, or would make an outstanding basis for a high quality and relatively straightforward restoration. A longtime California car, this example is structurally excellent and retains almost all of its correct interior, engine compartment, and exterior fittings, making an ideal and easy car to thoroughly restore.
