    Ebay item 3/31/15

Car has a buy it now price of $150,000 for 20 days. 17k miles. Seller cooperclassiccars.

    Sellers description:
The XK140 offered here is a desirable MC, or Special Equipment, model, outfitted by the factory with a high-compression cylinder head, as used on the C-Type racing cars, giving it the ability to produce 210hp. The MC edition also came equipped with a crankshaft damper, a dual exhaust, wire wheels, fog lamps, and windshield washers, making it an ideal candidate for long distance touring. The car is accompanied by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate, which establishes the current running gear and power plant to be the originals. The car has just recently been rebuilt mechanically by noted Jaguar specialist Bob Grossman of Mighty Roar Racing in Colorado. This was a true nut and bolt operation, and included (amongst other items) a rebuild of the numbers matching motor and transmission. The car sports an older cosmetic restoration, which holds up beautifully today. Its red Leather interior shows just the slightest hints of patina and the paint presents very well.

The car comes with a new top, side curtains, original owners manual, Heritage Certificate, and a complete original tool kit. In its currently fantastic running condition, it promises to be a reliable and usable classic for its next lucky owner.

This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC roadster was completed on April 18, 1955 and distributed in the US through Hoffman Motor Car Company of New York. It is said to have undergone a refurbishment in the mid-2000s and is finished in ivory over red leather upholstery. Power is supplied by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and additional equipment includes a black soft top with side curtains, Lucas front fog lamps, dual SU carburetors, chrome bumpers and side mirrors, and polished knock-off wire wheels. The car was acquired by the seller around seven years ago, and subsequent work has included a refresh of the overdrive unit and replacement of the seats, brake master cylinder, generator, and fuel filter. This XK140 is being offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, records from current ownership, and a Washington title in the seller’s name.

Finished from the factory in Battleship Grey, the car was repainted its current shade of ivory some time during previous ownership. Exterior features include a black soft top with removable side curtains, fender-mounted side mirrors, Lucas front fog lamps, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The wiper motor was replaced in 2017.

Polished 16” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with 215/65 Michelin Defender tires. Braking is through drums at all four corners, and the car rides on Spax shocks and rear leaf springs with leather gaiters. The brake master cylinder, brake hoses, and steering rack bellows were replaced in 2017 and the steering rack mounts were replaced in 2020.

Replacement seat frames were fabricated during current ownership and upholstered in red leather. Red carpets line the floors, and features include a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, a passenger-side grab handle, lap belts, and map pockets in both doors. The brake and clutch pedals have been relocated forward.

A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary displays. The ammeter has been repaired during current ownership and the speedometer cable replaced. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 18k miles, around 1,600 of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and twin SU carburetors and is said to have been rebuilt some time during previous ownership. The generator was replaced in preparation for the sale, while additional work over the last seven years has included a refurbishment of the thermal choke, installation of an Aeroquip oil line and brass fuel float, and replacement of the battery, fuel filter, and fuel lines.

A photo of the engine block stamping is provided above.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit, which was refurbished as part of an engine and transmission-out service in 2015.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows a completion date of April 18, 1955 along with the factory colors and identification numbers.

The car is being sold with a Washington title that lists “Classic” under the Brands section.
