This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC roadster is a running project that is said to have been purchased by the seller’s late father in 1966 and has remained in the family since. The car is finished in red over matching leather and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a white soft top, 16″ knock-off wire wheels, dual SU carburetors, and chrome bumpers with overriders. This XK140 project is now offered by the seller on behalf of the late owner’s estate with a replacement soft top and an Illinois title in the name of the estate.

The exterior is finished in red and features a white soft top, a two-piece windshield, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The left-rear bumperette is bent, there are cracked and missing lenses, and the bodywork under the grille is rusted. The soft top is discolored and a replacement top is included in the sale.

Silver-finished 16″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Coker Classic tires. Service completed since 2017 is said to include the replacement of brake components.

The cabin features seats trimmed in red leather along with a color-matching dashboard and door panels. Equipment includes a passenger grab handle, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, and a plaque affixed to the dash commemorating Jaguar’s record-breaking top-speed run. The upholstery and carpets show wear, and there is a hole in the driver’s seat. Corrosion is visible in the door jambs.

Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. There are cracks in the steering wheel. The speedometer and tachometer cables were replaced in 2019. The five-digit odometer shows 84k miles, and the total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with twin SU carburetors and a C-Type cylinder head that features dual-overhead camshafts. Service completed since 2017 reportedly includes the replacement of the fuel tank and ignition system.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Exhaust system components were replaced in 2020.

The Illinois title lists the car as a 1956 model year. The car is being offered by the seller on behalf of an estate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
