Car to be at auction 8/07
www.christies.com/LotFinder/lfsearch_coa/LotDescription.aspx

Auction description:
Exceptional Motor Cars At The Monterey Jet Center
Location Monterey, Jet Center Sale Date Aug 16, 2007
Lot Number 0069
Sale Number 1864
Lot Title 1956 JAGUAR XK140 SE OTS ROADSTER
Estimate 80,000 - 100,000 U.S. dollars
Lot Description 1956 JAGUAR XK140 SE OTS ROADSTER

Chassis No. S812197
Engine No. G702085

White with red leather interior, white piping and sand top

The Special Equipment models designated "SE", like the car represented here, were fitted with wire wheels and Lucas FT576 fog lamps mounted above the front bumper, numerous other minor body details and a different model of 1¾in SU carburetor. Home market SE cars included a C-Type head in their specification, but this was not the case for all export cars, as on this car.
The stunning example presented here is confirmed by its accompanying heritage certificate as having been built on March 9, 1956 and dispatched later on March 16. The first documented owner was Mr. Robert J. Handel Braver of East Overland, Ohio who, it is recorded took ownership on July 10, 1956. Originally delivered in black with red interior and a sand top, the heritage certificate also notes the "less C-type head" in the additional notes. Much of the early history for this XK140 SE is unknown until it came into the possession of its now current owner. It was at this point, in 2003, where the car was turned over to the very capable and noted hands of Jeff Snyder of Jeff's Resurrections in Taylor, Texas. Jeff's primary area of restoration is Jaguars and has a well documented history of completing some of the best scoring work in the JCNA fraternity. A major frame-on restoration was completed and photo documented and when completed the results did not disappoint. Recent awards include the 2003 JCNA Regional Concours Champion Class D-01 Driven Division, 2004 and 2005 JCNA Overall North American Concours Champion Class D-01 Driven Division. Completed with the original tonneau cover, fully restored side curtains and color matching bag, and a replacement tool kit from Welsh Enterprises valued at $1,600 - this stunning example is a proven show winner attesting to the fine and detailed restoration. Set in a handsome color combination this Jaguar XK140 SE OTS is ready for action.

Patrick, this link does not refer to S812197, it refers to S812442DN, all the numbers shown in the photos at Left Coast Classics are correct for S812442DN.

There is a mix-up of photos on the Left Coast website. Page 1 of their advert refers to S812197, but all the detail photos on page 2 show the numbers for S812442DN.

Car has a buy it now price of $124,900 for 9 days, seller legendarymotorllc, 9k miles. car now said to be in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Seller's description:

This 1956 Jaguar XK140 SE is an open two-seater with left hand drive. The 3.4L (3442cc) straight 6 engine has C-Type heads, double SU carburetors, 4-speed manual transmission, twin stainless-steel exhaust pipes and is factory rated at 210hp. The car is certified through Jaguar Heritage to have number matching Chassis, Engine, Body, and Gearbox.

This car was purchased by the current owner in 2012 at Auctions America, Auburn Indiana auction. It was sent shortly after to F.C.R. Inc. in Weymouth, MA for a frame off, cosmetic restoration. At that point it was switched from the original Black exterior to Old English White. The engine was completely rebuilt and an upgraded electric fan added for use during extended idle. Extensive notes and receipts have been kept from every stage of body and mechanical restoration in which the work was preformed to the highest level. Over $190,000 has been invested into this vehicle.

With less than 1000 miles driven since restoration this car is in very good condition. It has been properly maintained and stored in a climate-controlled environment.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
