In highly desirable specification with a restoration to the highest standards, this car has been in the same family for over forty-five years. It still wears its original black California license plates from when the car was purchased by the patriarch in 1962 in Oakland, California. As summarized by the patriarch`s son: “[Dad] drove it to work as often as possible, and hauled tools to a building project in the Sierras. We strapped Christmas trees over the car and crouched under them on the way home from the Santa Cruz mountains. My older sisters learned to drive in it. Perhaps wisely, I was not so trusted.” The car was driven until the 80`s, at which point it was laid up, needing an engine rebuild. The car was eventually restored during 2001-2003 by Mike Wilson Restorations, famous for their consistent show-winning restorations. There is a very thick sheaf of records with the car outlining all the money spent during the restoration. This car joined the ranks with a First in Class at Hillborough in 2003. It has won several other awards, which are included with the car. The deductions have been minimal, with a paint blemish on the trunk lid, incorrect hose clamps (more modern and effective ones are usually fitted because of their superior functionality) and a mismatched spare tire. Since then, the spare tire has been replaced with a matching unit, and the correct hose clamps were sourced from the United Kingdom and are included among the various spare parts that come with the car, but not installed. The car is highly complete, with several shop manuals, the original owner`s manual, tools, jack, extra keys, miscellaneous spare parts, several trophies from when the car was shown, and the records. Cosmetically, the car is in spectacular condition throughout. The paint is very high quality, and most importantly, the body straight and rust-free. The panels fit well, and the chrome is all excellent. Vintage crossply tires add to the period feel of the car, as do the black plates. The car also has wind wings fitted. The interior is also excellent, with quality leather and carpet fitted to high standards. The dashboard, seats, and door panels were done to high standards, and an aftermarket Lecarra steering wheel is presently fitted, though the original comes with the car too. The top is like new and correct with its green frame, and the side curtains are present with the car as well. The engine and trunk are both extremely clean and well prepared. The engine compartment is let down only by the deteriorating finish on the exhaust manifolds, which can be easily repaired, and the incorrect hose clamps. On the whole, however, the engine compartment is a paragon of correctness and cleanliness, from the wiring harness insulation to the finishes on the ancillaries. The underside is very tidy and solid as well. Coupled with its longtime California history and interesting story, this car is a very unique example that is ready to be enjoyed.
