Car to be at RM auction 1/10
www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm
Auction description:
1957 Jaguar XK140 MC Roadster
Chassis No. S813100
Estimate: $90,000-$100,000 US
To be auctioned on
Thursday, January 21, 2010
This is the highly desirable XK 140 MC Roadster (Open Two Seater) model, fitted with the competition C-type heads, competition carburetors, and Fog lamps. Notable on this car are the rack and pinion steering, increased performance with the optional “C-Type” cylinder head and dual exhausts, which increased horsepower from 190 for a standard XK140 to 210 hp.
John Bolster, technical editor of Britain’s Autosport, said the 140 was “a great improvement in every important respect” over the 120. He added, “140s took two gear changes and 10 seconds to reach 60 mph,” but its real appeal was an ability to get to 100 mph quickly and cruise there “with only a whiff of throttle.” In June 1955, Road & Track tested a $3,745 MC roadster and saw 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds. That, it said, was “performance per dollar excelled by no other car . . .”
These cars had their XK engines upgraded at the factory with a cylinder head of the same design as the C-Type works cars built for Le Mans. The MC package also included improved cooling and stopping power and much-improved cabin comfort and legroom gained from repositioning the engine and firewall.
The matching numbers example presented here is finished in Cotswold blue with a navy interior, matching convertible top, and comes complete with side curtains, a jack, car cover and matching tonneau cover. The recipient of a recent completely rebuilt drivetrain from noted marque specialists Donovan Motorcar Service in Lenox, Massachusetts, this XK140 has accrued only 1,000 miles since completion and according to the current owner “drives very well, is fully sorted and everything works properly.” Currently showing 2,225 miles on the odometer, this example has had the suspension, brakes, electrical, engine, transmission, clutch and rear end all replaced or rebuilt over the last few years. Thanks to the discerning owner, the car has been properly maintained and stored and has been patiently restored and fully sorted. The exterior remains in great condition from the chrome and brightwork to the beautiful Cotswold paint, the detailed engine bay and the chrome wire wheels. The interior, top and tonneau were properly and completely redone in deep blue and are in very nice condition, from the leather wrapped dash and the carpet to the Connoly leather seats that exhibit a handsome patina. This is an excellent opportunity to buy a rare XK140 MC Roadster that has been properly sorted and professionally maintained.

This 1957 Jaguar XK140 OTS (open two seater), is a highly sought after numbers matching “MC” model and is offered for sale with No Reserve.
Overall, this Jaguar XK140MC is an extremely fine example of a classic British sports car and has been lovingly cared for by its longtime current owner, an avid collector of fine automobiles and yachts. As verified by the accompanied certificate from the Jaguar Heritage Trust, this vehicle is painted in its original pastel or “Cotswold Blue” color. The exterior finish and lustor is extremely presentable for a high quality older restoration which speaks to the caliber and care of the vehicle. All vehicle numbers listed on the car’s data tag match the numbers found on the car as well as the heritage certificate. On the interior, the cockpit is trimmed out with blue carpeting and leather seats. The soft top is a high quality soft canvas and the darker blue color compliments the overall Cotsworth Blue nicely.
Under the hood this Jaguar is equipped with its original DOHC 6 cylinder specially equipped MC edition engine which features the optional C-Type cylinder head. Paired with dual SU carburetors, the MC special edition engine was recorded as producing upwards of 210hp. There are extensive documents and service records detailing the history of the car. Some of the work done includes engine service by Donovan Motors, engine and running gear work by Brett Leonard in Tisbury MA, alternator service done by Scott Frick’s in Tucson, and radiator work done by Bassett’s Jaguar.
While driving down the road, the four speed transmission shifts smoothly and helps to create a wonderful driving experience. In 2010, this Jaguar won the best of its class at a Jaguar concours in Tucson Arizona prior to the vehicle coming to New England. Judging sheets for the Tucson concours come with the car. Overall, this numbers matching MC edition Jaguar XK140 is a high quality example of an iconic British sports car and is being offered for sale without reserve. Sold with a Maine Registration.
