Current bid $5,000 reserve not met, 1 bid 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1957 Jaguar XK140 Roadster. The car is a restoration project with a great deal of expensive work completed. Consider it a work of art in motion with the following work all performed by us.

The engine was rebuilt with new Hepolite oversize .30 pistons and Vandervel .10 rod and main bearings. The two timing chains were replaced as well as all the chain sprockets or gears, chain slides and tensioner. The oil pump was replaced as well. The cylinder head was machined and has all new valves and valve guides. The cam bearings are new and the valve clearances are set to spec. The water pump was rebuilt, the block boiled and new core plugs fitted. We fitted a front main seal upgrade kit. We used the best parts from our new old stock stash for this engine. The engine has been fitted to the frame with new mounts. A new set of chromed head and cam nuts were fitted.

The carburators were rebuilt. The body and all mechanicals were removed from the frame. The frame of the car was then sandblasted, acid washed, primed with expensive catalyzed primers and painted black. The inside of the frame was Waxoyled. There was no heavy rust found on the frame, just the typical surface rust. The differential was dissassembled and rebuilt with all new bearings , gaskets and seals, The differential case was sandblasted and primed and painted. The rebuilt unit has been refitted to the frame with new springs, bushings and shocks. The front suspension and steering were rebuilt with the steering rack having new brass bushings pin fitted and new tie rod ends and boots. The front suspension received new up-rated torsion bars, ball joints, rebounds shocks, bushings, wheel bearings and mounts. The front suspension and steering have been fitted to the frame. The brakes were replaced with a new brake master cylinder, new front wheel cylinders and new rear wheel cylinders. The brake shoes were relined and all new steel brake pipes and flex hoses were fitted. The brake drums were turned just enough to make them perfect. All parts were bead blasted ,prepped and painted. A new fuel tank was purchased.

The overdrive transmission was dissassembled and has not been re-assembled. We were planning on replacing the bearings, gaskets and seals. The gears are in good condition. The overdrive has not been disassembled . We supply nice radial tires for XK-140's.

The original Smiths gauges compliment is complete right down to the clock and have all been professionally rebuilt. The gauges are packed in wrapping. This car had a new high quality cloth wrapped wiring harness fitted before we started the work so we carefully removed it and the wiring can be refitted at the right time. The car is now a rolling frame with engine fitted, front and rear suspension fitted and steering fitted.

The body of the car has rust in the usual places and included in this sale are some $3700. worth of new steel body repair parts such as the trunk repair kit, battery box assembly, new sills, inspection panels, shut pillars, mud shields etc. We have not done any body work and the car is ready for this now.

The car comes with a lot of its original as well as expensive new parts we acquired and are including. It has the original grill, bumpers, bumper brackets, tail lamps and top frame. The seats have been reupholstered in black leather as has the dash. New door panels come with the car. New windshield posts come with the car as well as some new chrome trim such as the boot chrome trim. A new old stock Lucas reverse and license plate lamp is included. We are also including a very rare pair of new old stock Lucas "J" headlamps. These are not knockoffs. The car has the driveshaft and an original and very rare XK-140 air filter assembly. A new Bell dual stainless steel exhaust system goes with the car as do two new porcelanized exhaust manifolds. There are many boxes of parts that go with the car such as the radiator, starter, generator, voltage control box, headlamps, a nice original steering wheel, fan blade etc, Also with the car is a very rare new old stock correct Lucas wiper motor.

The owner of the car cannot finish it so the car is being sold. Not many opportunities come along like this one that can be painted so you can have it your way. Sport and Classic Car Company in Houston Texas performed all the work on the car and has been restoring and selling parts for Jaguars since 1976.

We don't have a way to verify the mileage and after 50 years, who really knows?

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
