Delivered from the factory in Pacific Blue, the car underwent a color change to gunmetal gray under previous ownership and was briefly returned to its factory color in the 1970s before it was reportedly painted in its current Dove Gray lacquer, a 1976 Lincoln color, by Doug’s Auto of Federal Way, Washington. The chrome brightwork was also replated at that time by Queen City Plating and Mastercraft Metal Finishing. Rust is noted in the rocker panels, door jambs, and B-pillars, and the windshield wipers are inoperable. The seller notes scratches in the windshield and that the door jamb seals require replacement. Replacement glass for both sides of the windshield is included in the sale.

The body-color wire wheels feature two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 6.50-16 Lester bias-ply whitewall tires that were installed along with new tubes in 2020. A matching spare wheel is fitted under the trunk floor, and a 16″ spare wire wheel finished in black with an older Firestone tire is included in the sale. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums, and the braking system is said to have been rebuilt in January 2021.

The cabin features seats that were retrimmed in Bridge of Weir gray leather along with matching door panels and mohair wool carpets that were reportedly installed in 1975. The wood trim on the dash and door caps was also refinished at that time. A repair of the turn signal switch was performed in January 2020 along with repairs of the door panels and handles. Wear is noted on the carpets, and delamination is present on the driver-side wood door trim.

The four-spoke steering wheel has a cracked rim and fronts Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline and an inset clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. A replacement speedometer cable was installed in January 2020. The five-digit odometer shows over 75k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership. The ammeter and horn do not work, and the factory light switch has been bypassed for an under-dash toggle switch. A replacement cloth-covered wiring harness from Rhode Island Wiring Service is included in the sale.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features a C-Type cylinder head, dual overhead camshafts, and twin SU H6 carburetors for a factory-rated output of 210 horsepower. Leaks are noted from the engine bay, and service performed in January 2020 reportedly included:

Installation of a new water pump, thermostat, hoses, clamps, and belt

Rebuild and re-coring of the radiator

New fan shroud

New spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor

Rebuilds of the carburetors and choke

New battery

Installation of a battery kill switch

Cylinder head stamping G3654–8S matches the engine block stamping, chassis plate, and Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Underside rust perforation is visible in the gallery, and the seller notes play in the driveline. Service performed in January 2021 reportedly included:

Installation of a new fuel pump, sending unit, and filter

Fuel tank cleaning

A clutch adjustment

Exhaust mount repair

Lubrication of the chassis, gearbox, rear axle, and overdrive unit

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a manufacture date of May 24, 1955. A collection of spare parts including a set of SU carburetors can be seen in the gallery.

Photos taken before and during the 1970s refurbishment are also included.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
