Ebay item 7/21/07

Current bid $13,100 reserve not met, 7 bids, 6 days in auction.

Sellers description:
This is a 1955 Jaguar XK 140 Coupe with the optional 210 horse power engine and the wire wheel SE package. Also sometimes called the MC140. This car has been off the road in storage since 1993 or so. It is a Southern California car, It was restored back in 1980, according to a brass plate in the engine bay. This is a matching numbers car.Chassis number S814364. Body number J4565 and engine number 3662. All numbers match on the plate. The only one I have not checked is the gearbox number, but I would guess that is also matching.. The body of this car is in pretty good shape. It will have some small issues here and there, but nothing too bad at all. There is no signs of previous accident history and no body work is evident. The paint is going away on the roof .So a repaint will be in order. The interior will need to be gone thru as well. The headliner is in nice shape. The front seats are toast, Though the rear leather seats are in pretty good shape. The wood dashboard is right at the edge of being able to be cleaned up again. The chrome bumpers and grill are in excellent shape. The glass all around is in nice shape. The rear trunk floor is solid with no serious rust at all. The frame is solid, straight and rustfree. The outrigers all look nice. The rockers are good. There really does not look like any bondo or plastic handy work under the paint. This is a straight clean body. I have not tried to start this car since I got it. After so many years in storage, I would want to change out all the fluids, change plugs, wires, cap, rotor , flush the fuel system, rebuild the carbs and all before starting the engine up. The engine turns freely by hand right now.I was told this car was driving fine when it was taken off the road back in the early 90's. So it should not take much to get this car up and running. This is a great car to work with. SE /MC package car. Wire wheels. Extra 20 horses over stock 190 140.Dual exhaust. And so on. This car deserves to be back out on the road. These are beautiful cars. With fantastic lines and curves. They are getting harder and harder to find in nice shape to work with that will not break your bank to buy. And these are strong cars in the sales department when done up. While not impossible, it would be hard losing money restoring a car like this. But more than anything else, this car deserves to be back out on the highway, and not stashed away in storage.

is this car still for sale?

I purchased the above car in Prescott, Az, in 2007. I started the restoration in 2012 and finished the restoration in 2017. I had it painted the original color, the interior color is now suede green as original, and the car is now frequently driven. Common sense upgrades include an aluminum radiator, negative ground with an alternator, and a 5-speed gearbox (Tremec).

The car required a complete nut and bolt restoration and took five years of diligent work to return to the road. I drive it weekly and use it on several tours every year.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
