The car came with a replacement engine G5771-8 from California which apparently has been in the car for many, many years (chassis plate had this new engine number stamped; chassis, body and gearbox numbers still 100% correct). Even the California "Certificate of Title" has this engine number: it is used as Vehicle Number... instea of the chassisnumber S814683DN) This replacement engine however does not have the C-type head (as per original engine G4791-8S). I was lucky enough to find a C-type head in the UK from engine G6273-8S, which had been taken out of a RHD XK140 SE somewhere in the early sixties with a bent valve but no other dammage! This head was excellent and after a quick overhaul is now on the car. The replacement engine is from October 1955 and the C-type head is most likely from November 1955, so all engines within a 4 months time frame.
