This car has original engine, G3177-8S, and was shipped new to the Hornburg dealership in Los Angeles California. The original owner was Lloyd Philipson and it came with the Maroon exterior and Biscuit interior, according to the Heritage certificate. It originally came with a CR gearbox, which was replaced in the 70's with the standard 4 speed. It was refurbished in the 70's, is now currently driven in club events.

According to the Heritage certificate it is the correct engine. I'm sure you are aware that Jaguar did not subscribe to an exact sequencing of the numbers.

Agreed Larry but not 2000 plus apart surely. Could the 3 be a misread of a 5 ???

    Peter,
Seems unusal, I agree, but Jaguar Heritage said it was shipped with engine G3177-8S, and that is what is stamped on the block. I suppose there could have been an error when stamping engine at factory, then repeated when entered on build sheet. All I know is the engine in it matches their records.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
