This 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC is a fixed-head coupe that was distributed to the United States via Jaguar Cars of New York and was purchased by the seller in 1996. Finished in light gray over beige leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Additional equipment includes a C-type cylinder head, dual SU carburetors, 16″ knock-off wire wheels, driving lights, and burl wood interior trim. This XK140 is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, service records, spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name that lists the car as a 1957 model.

Originally finished in Pacific Blue, the car was repainted light gray under prior ownership. Equipment includes driving lights, chrome bumpers with overriders, dual fender-mounted side mirrors, a Jaguar hood ornament, a leather bonnet strap, and dual exhaust outlets. The paint is cracked in various locations around the car, rust is present on the right-rear fender, and the seller notes a ding on the left-front fender.

Chrome 16″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knockoffs and mounted with Coker Garfield bias-ply tires. The XK140 was equipped with rack-and-pinion steering, and MC examples featured heavier torsion bars. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.

Originally red, the interior has been re-trimmed in beige with leather upholstery on the seats. Appointments include burl wood trim, a telescoping steering column, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, ashtrays, and a locking glove box. The driver’s door window does not fully close, and the heater and aftermarket air conditioner do not work. A removed air conditioning compressor is included in the sale. The seller notes that the overdrive functions, however the control switch is inoperative.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a 6k-rpm reverse-sweep tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles, though total mileage is unknown. The horn does not work.

The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with a C-type cylinder head, dual SU carburetors, and polished cam covers. The oil was changed in March 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and serial numbers, along with a build date of April 6, 1956. Service records will also accompany the car along with an owner’s manual, an XK120 service manual, and spare parts.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
