    Car to be at auction 8/12
    www.goodingco.com/car/1952-jaguar-xk120

    Auction description;
    Lot 062
    1952 Jaguar XK Special
    CHASSIS NO. S815749
    ENGINE NO. RA-4165-9
    *Please note that this car is titled 1952.
    $200,000 - $275,000

    When the owner and creator of this extraordinary one-off automobile first envisioned this car, he knew it would have the look and feel of the iconic Jaguar XK120 LT-1 but handle like a modern thoroughbred race car.

    In 1950, Jaguar built four alloy-bodied versions of the XK120, giving these lightweight models the suffix LT-1. They were prepared specifically for the 24 Hours of Le Mans event, but at the last minute Jaguar raced its new aerodynamic C-Type instead and sold all four LT-1s to private buyers.

    As original LT-1s seldom come to market, an entrepreneur in California decided to create his own version of the super-light race car, faithful to the Jaguar marque, and drawing from the company's post-XK120 technology and modern advancements to produce ultimate performance and handling.

    The project began in 2004 and, based upon the decision to utilize the preferred rack-and- pinion steering, the frame of an XK140 was acquired by XKs Unlimited of San Luis Obispo, California, and used as the basis of this project. The frame was reinforced by replacing the fac- tory spot welds with seam welding, and then the entire chassis was powder-coated black. An E- Type rear suspension complete with inboard brakes was adopted, as well as an E-Type 3.8- litre inline six-cylinder motor, set 5" back of stan- dard, for added power, balance and performance. The custom-built exhaust system features a six-into-two header configuration leading to an ingeniously routed exhaust system that cuts through the frame rail to allow the car to sit lower yet breathe as it should. The cylinder head is finished to a custom XKs Unlimited design, allowing the three massive Weber carburetors to work in harmony with larger valves operated by custom camshafts. The engine's lower end follows suit, featuring custom-designed 10.5:1 pistons with Carrillo rods and a high-volume oil pump. Topping out at more than 7,000 rpm and still able to pull at 6,400 rpm, this incredible car achieves 70 mph at only 3,000 rpm.

    The Jaguar's estimated 325 hp, coupled with its curb weight of less than 2,400 lbs., make it a pure thrill to drive. Custom adapted modern suspension components ensure that the drive will be both exhilarating and comfort- able on any number of road routes.

    Sitting atop this masterfully conceived combination of Jaguar components is a stunning all-aluminum LT-1 replica body, which was custom-built by RS Panels of Nuneaton, England, at a cost of over $75,000. An original LT-1 was loaned to the metal shaping shop by its owner to ensure that the copy was as accurate as possible. The car is finished in brilliant black with chrome wire wheels and a striking red leather interior.

    A close look at this Jaguar Special reveals that nearly every inch of the car is custom engineered and built to fulfill a singular vision of the ultimate XK. The owner and those who built the car believe this one-of-a-kind creation surpasses all expectations.

    For the discerning buyer who wants to own a magnificent and totally unique Jaguar that is powerful yet ultimately drivable on the street, this spectacular XK offers an incredible opportunity at a fraction of the build cost.
