Note, the car was on ebay several times in '13, as S817048, which was posted here. The seller was kind enough to inform us that the number was incorrect and the car was actually S817049. The last recorded info in '13 was: "Previous auction ended at $4,350 after 7 bids. Current bid $1,955, no reserve, 1 bid 9 days left in auction". Below is the description given on its first auction.
Ebay item 9/10/13
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1955-Jaguar-XK140-Drop-Head-Coupe-/190899373732
Opening bid $1,955 reserve not met, no bids 9 days left in auction. Buy it now price $15,500.
Sellers description:
This 1955 XK140 drop head coupe, as you can see has not been kept in a heated garage. There are very few of these cars left that have not been restored. What remains of the car is shown in the photos. This XK140 is a special equipment car as designated by the S in the chassis number -- S817048. The S also indicates that the car was fitted at the factory with a C type head. The car still comes with the hood frame intact, which surprisingly is in good shape. The engine and gearbox presently in the car do not match the commission plate. A donor car would allow this car to be a reality come true. The car does steer and roll, so it can be shipped easily.

Car returns to ebay 6/6/15
www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-XK-XK140-/191595083558
Opening bid US $1,955 reserve not met no bids 8 days left in auction. Buy it now price $36,500.
Auction description:
Hilltop Auto Stock # 162, a 1955 XK140 Drop Head Coupe is one of a handful of the first XK140 D.H.C. made. The car was built in December of 1954. Yes, she is a little worn out. The main components are all there. Parts are missing, so the price reflects this. The engine in the car has an XK140MC block, but the head is not an MC head. The rear clip of the car is very nice dry condition. The rest of the body panels will need to be re-worked as you can see in the photos. The frame on the car is weak. There are some extra parts in a box as shown in the photos.
