A very usable example of Jaguar’s characterful classic sports car, in desirable ‘Special Equipment’ guise with the C-Type cylinder head, treated to a partial restoration.
Under the bonnet is a 3.4-litre DOHC straight-six, producing up to 213hp from the factory, and driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
It is understood that just 1,488 left-hand-drive Drophead Coupes were built in this mechanical specification.
The car has been resprayed and retrimmed, and is reported by the seller to be a matching-numbers example.
The car is now situated in Belgium, where it is offered for sale by the motor trade.
The ‘S’ chassis number prefix of this car denotes it as a ‘Special Equipment’ model, originally fitted the C-Type cylinder head, and known as the ‘MC’ model in the US.
This XK140 was originally delivered to New York, and was specified in Arbour Green over a green suede-trimmed cabin. It was later exported to Europe, where it was resprayed in red and retrimmed in beige leather.
It rides on a set of 16-inch wire wheels with twin-eared chrome knock-offs and Michelin tyres.
The cabin is fitted with Smiths dials, a locking glovebox, opening front quarterlights, and burr walnut inlays.
Accompanying the sale are the registration documents, numerous service invoices, Heritage Trust certificate, and spare wheel.
CONDITION
Please refer to the photo gallery to assess exterior and interior condition.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.
SERVICE HISTORY
The car was last serviced by the seller dealer, who repaired the fuel gauge, adjusted the carburettors, and replaced the engine oil and filter.
