This 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC is a drophead coupe that was completed on March 13, 1956, and was distributed through Jaguar Cars of New York. It underwent a refurbishment that was completed in 2003 before it was purchased by the selling dealer in 2023. The car is finished in black over red leather upholstery, and power comes from a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a replacement three-speed automatic transmission. Features include an aluminum radiator, an electric cooling fan, a 12-volt electrical system, front disc brakes, 16″ wire wheels, a black soft top, Lucas driving lamps, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. This XK140 drophead coupe is now offered with a maintenance chart, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, and Rhode Island registration.
Compared to the XK140 roadster, the drophead coupe features an integrated windshield frame, roll-up side windows, and exterior door handles. This example was delivered from the factory in Pastel Blue, and the car was repainted in its current black during the 2003 refurbishment. Features include chrome bumpers with overriders, Lucas driving lamps, a black soft top, and dual exhaust outlets.
The chrome wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 165R16 Firestone Cavallino Sport 200 radial tires. The XK140 was equipped from the factory with rack-and-pinion steering and telescopic rear shock absorbers. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes and rear drums.
The cabin features front seats and rear seating surfaces that were retrimmed in red leather upholstery during the 2003 refurbishment, and matching door panels and carpets were also installed at that time. Equipment includes burl wood dashboard and door trim as well as a chrome-finished parking brake handle, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a locking glovebox, front lap belts, and map pockets in both doors.
The Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts a 6k-rpm reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, a 140 mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 2,700 miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter XK inline-six features dual SU carburetors and a replacement cylinder head from a Jaguar Mark 1 that is topped by C-Type cam covers. The car is equipped with a 12-volt electrical system as well as an aluminum radiator and an electric cooling fan. Fresh fluids were added by the selling dealer in 2023.
Engine block stamping G7232–8S matches the number listed on the chassis tag and the Jaguar Production Trace Certificate below.
The car was delivered from the factory with an automatic transmission, and a manual gearbox was installed under previous ownership before a replacement BorgWarner three-speed automatic transmission was fitted during the 2003 refurbishment.
The Production Record Trace certificate shows the factory colors and identification numbers along with a completion date of March 13, 1956.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its registration, which is expired.
