Sellers description:
1957 Jaguar XK140 SE/MC Chassis: S 819172 Engine: G 9503-8S Body: P 5660 Gearbox: JL 36624 CR 1 of 300 XK140 MC/SE Drophead Coupe Meticulously documented restoration Matching numbers 3.4 liter MC engine, and 4-speed transmission Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Seller is: www.canepa.com

Earliest records show the car in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 60s. On September 1st 1984 an AT&T engineer named David McKay from Georgia purchased the car from its California owner, Michael Valencia. McKay recalled how original and unmolested the car was when he received it; I found only one wire out of place when I purchased it. Being an engineer by trade McKay kept meticulous documentation on the car from the day he received it, and all the way through its restoration. Over 200 pages of hand-written notes and a complete book of photos show every step taken and every decision made throughout the process. The car was completely disassembled and painstakingly rebuilt, including the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and electrical. The restoration began in 1985 and would be completed in 1991, just in time for the car to be sent out to compete at the Palo Alto Concours d'Elegance. As a JCNA Chief judge, McKay had prepped the car well and it took 2nd in class at it first Concours. With the challenge of getting the car finished completed McKay moved on to other projects and the Jaguar sat under a cover in his garage until 2005. With a bit of fettling the car came back to life and McKay began driving it to local events in Georgia, including collecting another 2nd place at the 2011 AJS Concours d'Elegance, scoring an impressive 99.2/100. Since arriving at Canepa the XK140 has been thoroughly serviced and mechanically inspected. Over 100 hours have been invested in the detailing of this stunning car, and it is ready once again to grace a concours lawn. Few cars deliver the true, original sports car experience better than the XK140. Whether it is the wind in your hair, or the vintage power and handling at your fingertips you will never be disappointed driving this British legend. And if the rain catches you off guard this Drophead Coupe has true roll up windows and a fully functional soft top. It is truly the best of all worlds.

My father owned this car for a couple of years. I have documents from when he bought it in Texas and when he traded it in in California for a 59 356 d. IIRC he owned it from 57 to 59 (can verify from docs). Uploaded a picture from Austin, he was stationed there flying F-86's for the Air Force.

Glad to see it is in such fantastic shape. Looked for the 356 and couldn't find anything.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
