    Jaguar ModelXK150 SE

This XK on offer today is one such rare survivor of a British sports car delivered new in Britain. Records indicate that this is one of the earliest cars to come off the production line, in early 1957, the year that has been considered the happiest year in Britain of the 20th Century, famed by Prime Minister Macmillain’s quote “we’ve never had it so good” – and we can only imagine the impact this machine would have had on the streets of such an optimistic Britain, with other such historical feats in 1957 such as the first World Championship win for a British car in Formula One and the opening of the Jodrell Bank observatory.

The car as such a survivor has obviously been properly maintained and restored, with a body off chassis restoration and the chassis restored, and all mechanical systems restored and refinished as new, and this work is photographically documented, clearly indicating that much if not most of the original British car remains, a fact so important in the restoration.

Complete with the original buff log book from the time – a worthy survivor from an optimistic and excited post-war Britain.

Restored in the 90s by marque specialist

Fitted with rare factory XK140 details

Chassis 824029 was manufactured on the 2nd of September 1957 and supplied new via Henlys Limited in Bournemouth to its first owner Mrs Naomi Cotton of Dorset, finished in Pearl Grey over a red leather interior, this XK150 was fitted with body number J7492, engine number V1535-8 and gearbox number JLS38050JS which are all retained today. Specified from new with the 3.4 litre engine with a manual gearbox and overdrive. In October of 1960 the car was sold to a Mr Gordon Richard Matthews of Christchurch in Dorset, by 1964 the car had changed hands and was owned by Major Edward B Wilson of Hampshire, then later in the year chassis 824029 was sold to Mr Cyril Arthur Frederick Fuller Shapcott in Berkshire who kept the car until 1967 when Mr Maurice Geoffrey Paige of Berkshire acquired the car, later purchased by Mr Wilfred Clive Dance of Devon, who never drove the car. The car was purchased by its current owner in the summer of 1984 from Devon where it had been in storage, when found it was in a sorry state and needed some attention.

In 1995 the car was subject to a complete nut and bolt restoration by Fernbank Motor Co and Thurston Engineering. First the body was completely stripped down to bare metal with the body being removed from the chassis for some welding work which had to be carried out, the car was resprayed in old English white, the leather is untouched with the roof lining, door panels and carpets replaced. The restoration was completed in 2005, the car still shows the quality of the restoration.

Overall this home-supplied XK150 3.4 SE is in fantastic condition inside and out, it retains some wonderful original features and not to be missed; the rare details from the XK140 such as the rear lights and door cards, complete with the car is a thick history file with original documents and a large restoration folder.
