The present owner and vendor informs us that the car was totally rebuilt in the 1980's and in the history file that accompanies the car there is photographic evidence of the work carried out together with a variety of invoices. During the rebuild the car was up-rated to 'S' specification with all the work carried out to factory specificationa and it has the 3442cc six-cylinder engine and manual transmission with overdrive which improves the driving performance.

The afore mentioned history file contains the original green logbook, which confirms the registration SBO 453 and a replacement lightweight balanced flywheel and clutch has just been fitted.

A lovely example.

Sellers description:
1958 Jaguar XK150 3.4 FHC uprated to S Spec

We have known SBD 453 for over 15 years and it is a car we know very well with a proven track record for outstanding performance and reliability. This particularly quick XK was upgraded to S Specification during a mid-1980's restoration and we know from previous MOT certificates the XK has covered in the region of 15,000 miles since 1997. SBD 453 was first registered on the 19th September 1958 and is a genuine UK supplied matching numbers car with the exception if its uprated 3.8 cylinder head. The XK150 FHC was dispatched from Henlys Limited, London on the 16th September and the first owner hasn't been recorded according to the Jaguar Heritage Trust. From a 'buff' logbook issued in 1963 we know the car was in the London Borough of Hounslow until 1969, it changed hands and was briefly in Croydon before heading South to Chichester in Sussex. The XK then spent several years off the road, purchased by a long-term owner in Edinburgh during the early 1980's who then commissioned a major restoration.
Between 1983 and 1985 this original UK car had to be completely stripped and the body professionally restored with new floors, sills and various new panels. The XK was then fully painted, re-chromed and mechanically overhauled. It was at this point the car was upgraded to factory S specification with triple carburettors and S badges. On completion the XK was put into gentle use and over thirty years since completion of the rebuild, the car is still in beautiful order. There is no doubt the car has been painted again since, we believe during the late 1990's and the body is still structurally outstanding. The underside is excellent and the body panels are in lovely order with no signs of corrosion. The chrome work gleams and is of a high standard, the chrome wire wheels and tyres are excellent and whilst the interior was re-trimmed during the 1980's, it still is very smart indeed. The car does still retain its original correct seat backs; however, the recent owner has had bucket style rear sections fitted for comfort during longer distance touring. The engine bay is still of a high standard, as is the boot area.

On the road SBD 453 is truly outstanding and is a very fast car. The engine holds excellent oil pressure, pulls incredibly well and is in strong condition with a delightful roar. The four speed with overdrive MOSS gearbox is excellent with nice changes up and down the gearbox and the XK handles perfectly with lovely steering and sharp brakes. The car benefits from a lightened flywheel and has further improved performance from the S specification. The car has driven to us faultlessly from the York/Harrogate area and drives just as impressive as it did when we sold it to the most recent owner in 2011. Since 2011 the Jaguar has had a new set of tyres, the modified seats at a cost of over £1200 and upkeep to include a new heater matrix, new clutch pipe, carb overflow pipe, new clutch slave cylinder, new crankshaft damper, high torque starter motor, replacement regulator, new brake pads, handbrake pads, wheel cylinders, new front hub oil seals, new cooling hoses and new sump gasket. Recent ownership has also seen seatbelts fitted at a cost of almost £500.

This has been a great car for us over the last fifteen years. We have sold it to several long-term customers who have adored the car during ownership. It's always proven to be reliable and really is outstanding to drive. Many years on since rebuild it still looks stunning and paintwork is still sharp with an impressive finish. It has beautifully aged since rebuild and has the looks of a car perhaps rebuilt between five and ten years ago. If looking for a high quality XK to use on a regular basis, or even test with long distance overseas touring, this is a car worth serious consideration. Further desirability of this motor car comes with the provenance of being a genuine UK matching numbers car and the upgrade to S specification certainly make it even more impressive. Finally, a comprehensive history is with the car detailing the restoration and includes DVLA correspondence, 1963 issued buff logbook, Heritage Certificate, MOT Certificates, original handbook and equipment and test data sheet.
