Car to be at auction 7/12
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php

Auction description:

Lot 148 - 1958 Jaguar XK150 SE Fixedhead Coupe
Estimate: £28,000 - £35,000
Registration Number: XDU 150
Chassis Number: S824647

Chassis S824647 was manufactured in 1958, and first registered on 5th February 1959. This car features the Special Equipment package including spot lights, wire wheels, and an up-rated mechanical package including a manual gearbox with the desirable overdrive. The owner informs us that the car was subject to a full body and mechanical refurbishment during 1999/2000, and reports that it is still in exceptional condition.

The previous owner had the vehicle for 13 years during which it was regularly maintained and serviced by a Jaguar specialist. The comprehensive history file confirms the fettling the car has undergone, and contains old MoT certificates, tax discs, photos and invoices together with the original buff and green log books which confirm that the car retains its original registration mark of 'XDU 150', as well as body and interior trim colours of black and red respectively.

The owner also informs us that the car was upgraded to 'S' specification during the 1960s, when a straight port head was fitted together with three SU carburettors. With the subtle engine modifications the owner reports that the 'XDU 150' is extremely exciting to drive.

One of the greatest post-war British sports cars of all, 'XDU 150' represents a highly original example of this rare SE specification Jaguar.

Chassis S824647 was manufactured in 1958, and first registered on 5th February 1959. This car features the Special Equipment package including spot lights, wire wheels, and an uprated engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. It is offered from 13 year ownership, during which time it was regularly maintained and serviced by Jaguar specialist, Mick Sales with 35 years' experience in Jaguar/Daimler. The comprehensive history file confirms the attention which this car has received, and contains old MoT certificates, tax discs, photos and invoices together with the original buff log book.

Pleasingly, this XK150 retains its original registration mark, 'XDU 150' which is special in itself, and is resplendent in body and interior trim colours of black and red respectively. The car was upgraded to 'S' specification during the 1960s, when a straight port head was fitted together with three SU carburettors. These subtle engine modifications mean not only is this car one of the greatest of the post-war British sports cars, it's also exhilarating to drive. This motorcar represents a usable yet distinguished example of this rare SE specification Jaguar and is a certain hit amongst classic motoring enthusiasts.

1959 Jaguar XK150
What a rare car our XK150 fixed head coupe. An original 1959 right hand drive English car retaining its correct colour scheme of black with red trim and it ORIGINAL registration number XDU150. The engine is not the original but it is the highly desirable period correct 3.8 litre S variant with induction through triple HD8 carburretors. The overdrive gearbox is the original for the car and works very well.

XDU150 has a super straight chassis in very fine condition. Mechanically the car is in very fine order. The engine is a smooth and 'fruity' and can easily spin the rear wheels in first and second gear! The oil pressure is excellent and we have no issue with offering a warranty for 12months on this engine. The gearbox to snicks smoothly and engages overdrive without delay. On the road the car behaves impeccably and the uprated suspension gives the car a very stable and confidence inspiring feel mated to the 185x15" Avon tyres.

This is a superb XK150 to drive. Make no mistake about it. If you want a Grand Touring yet sporty derivative of the XK this car is worthy of consideration. The cabin of XDU150 is a stylish blend of freshly restored red leather seats and a mahogany dash centre. The heater is new and gives ample heat when required on cool days.

The car was fully restored bodily probably 20+ years ago and arguably the car would benefit from a fresh coat of Masons Black paint. However, you could equally argue that XDU150 is a fine car showing some 'patina' from 20 years of road use and wearing them well. I would probably leave the car as is

A car such as this driving beautifully and presented in such an appealing colour scheme is a very attractive XK proposition. However, when you delve into the bulging history file there is the original buff and green logbooks. The latter documents the engine change. There are dozens of invoices for work and parts and all the MOT's and tax discs going back decades. Finally but very significantly XDU150 was recently featured in Classic & Sportscar and her performance was commented upon in very positive narrative within that article.

All in all this is a rare and highly desirable XK with a great history, driving superbly, sold with a warranty and surely a great investment you can enjoy. Not to be missed I would think
