According to its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, chassis S824963DN began life as a manual, right-hand drive 3.4litre fixed head coupe. Despatched on 29th June 1959 to Henlys of London, it was originally finished in Sherwood green with suede green upholstery. Purchased by the vendor as a tired matching numbers car from a Mr Jones of the Forest of Dean some years ago, its corroded bodywork bore signs of accident damage to the offside front corner. Deciding upon further inspection that the panelwork was beyond economic repair, a search was begun for a replacement shell. Chancing upon the remains of an original drophead coupe (literally the refurbished body and precious little else) at the liquidation sale of a West Country restorer, the decision was taken to resurrect S824963DN as an open car. As the project progressed, it was discovered that the original engine block was porous. Taking the opportunity to upgrade the XK still further a 3.8 block of the correct type was sourced along with an uprated cylinder head, the whole unit being rebuilt with new pistons etc. With the body re-sprayed in British Racing Green and much of the chromework renovated, the 2+2 interior was professionally re-trimmed in biscuit leather with matching carpets. Now officially registered with the DVLA as a Jaguar XK Convertible, S824963DN is described by the vendor as being in good to very good overall condition. Riding on smart chrome wire wheels shod with Avon Turbospeed 6 x 16 tyres, it boasts other Special Equipment features such as overdrive and front mounted Lucas spotlights. Under the bonnet, the presence of an original Trico glass windscreen washer reservoir bottle and period effect stickers for the AC air filters and Girling brake fluid master cylinder are nice touches as are the ‘J’ emblems to the headlamp centres. Running well upon inspection, it is offered for sale with V5 registration document, Heritage certificate, twelve months MOT and historic class (free) road tax.
Estimate: £25,000 - £30,000
Result: £21000

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
