One of 662 XK150 drophead coupés made, this example was supplied new via Ashmores, of West Bromwich to first owner David Bros, of Smethwick. The XK had been in storage for some years when it was acquired from JD Classics by the current vendor. We are advised that the last owner, who is shown as the only registered keeper on the accompanying Swansea V5, owned the XK since the early 1970s, and it is believed that there was only one owner prior to him. The current mileage of 22,420 is believed genuine, although there is little supporting paperwork. However, the interior is totally original right down to the carpets and the inner hood lining, the outer hood covering having been replaced. The interior has a very nice patina that is rarely found these days, and its appearance would appear to support the conclusion that this car has been used only sparingly over the years.
‘XRP 699’ was originally finished in Pearl Grey and is believed to have been re-sprayed red in the early 1970s, since when the body appears not to have been touched. The car has only covered a maximum of 12,000-or-so miles since that time and although the paintwork looks presentable, it would benefit from a re-spray, at which time any work necessary to the 50-year old body could be carried out. Alternatively, the car could be enjoyed as it is or treated to a ‘rolling restoration’, which is what the vendor had intended to do. Works undertaken since acquisition include overhauling the braking system and various other re-commissioning tasks. The car has covered only a few miles since the last MoT test and drives extremely well, feeling tight and seemingly free of rattles. It is offered with Heritage Certificate, current MoT and Swansea V5 registration document.
