Auction description:
Lot : 26
1958 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe
Supplied via Henlys of London
SOLD for £23100
Registration No: USU 577
Chassis No: S827243
Engine No: KG4042-8
CC: 3400
Colour: White
Trim Colour: Blue
MOT: Nov 2009
According to the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, this particular example was manufactured on 14th November 1958 and supplied new via Henlys of London. A 'Special Equipment' model, the Drophead Coupe had acquired a replacement Jaguar 3.4 litre engine and only recently been repatriated from France when it entered the current ownership during late 1989. Finished in white with blue leather upholstery, 'USU 577' is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment and interior trim. Despite treating the drophead coupe to a respray in 1999, he considers that its coachwork and paintwork are now "in need of some attention". Thought to have never been fully restored but rather maintained and repaired throughout its life, the car is understood to have covered about 9,000 miles since being given a thorough engine overhaul during 1998. As well as a conversion to unleaded, the work apparently included reboring, new pistons / valves and replacement timing chains etc. Benefiting from a Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel, blue mohair hood / hood bag, refurbished clock / rev-counter and stainless steel exhaust, the XK150 has reportedly been "little used over the last five years". Starting readily upon inspection, it is hoped but not guaranteed that the Jaguar will possess a current MOT certificate by the time of sale. While other paperwork on file comprises a French Certificat D'Immatriculation, assorted Guy Broad / XK Engineering / G.W. Bartlett invoices plus a service bill from November 2007 (£301.19).

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
