Car listed for sale at:

classyjaguar.com/view_listing.php

1959 Jaguar XK150 , Ecurie Ecosse Blue/Red Leather, 35000 Miles
The car was found in a barn in 1986. The car underwent a frame off restoration in 1988. The car was completely original with a dual carb 3.4 litre motor and overdrive four speed transmission. The motor was completely rebuilt to stock specifications for street and racing applications with the emphasis on reliability by Jerry Mong. After racing the car for six years in vintage events, the motor was pulled and the engine refreshed with new bearings and a new oil pump. No other modifications or work was required. After racing another year(two races),it was time for a bigger and faster motor and five speed transmission. A tri carb 3.8 litre race motor was then installed. Additional modifications were also performed to support the bigger motor. These are outlined below in detail. The car has been raced once each year at Mid-Ohio since the new 3.8 motor was installed. Lap times have been in the high 1:50's with a very conservative driver(me). The car has never had a DNF in any race and has always finished without any problems other then a blown tire in practice. The car has never been off the hard racing surface and has never been in any contact with another car, guard rail, etc. A list of the modifications required for vintage racing are listed below. All original equipment is available to restore the car to street if desired. The roll cage has been bolted to the frame(not welded) so that it can be easily removed if street use is desired. The original gas tank has been removed and replaced with a racing fuel cell(8 gallon). All bumpers have been removed and are available if desired. Top frame components and original wire wheels (painted) are also available. All these items are in original condition and will need to be restored for street use. The following modifications were done during the frame off restoration:

  • 1)Frame was dipped and epoxy painted(2 coats).New wiring harness installed(all standard color wires) and all lights work if wiring is connected.Entire body was dipped and repainted with acrylic color and clear. No major metal work was required as the body was basically sound.

  • 2)Competition Dayton wire wheels(15" and 16") were made and painted grey.East coast vintage groups require 16" wheels while 15" are allowed at most events since the original wheel size was actually 16".Goodyear racing tires are mounted on the 15" rims and dunlop racing tires are mounted on the 16" rims. The goodyear tires will need replacing after a few more races.

  • 3)Heavy duty torsion bars installed, full heli-arc welded chromemoly steel roll cage installed, fire suppression system(engine, driver, trunk areas),stainless steel braided TFE brake and fuel lines installed,8 gallon fuel cell,Moser engineering custom high torque axles made and installed, custom billet aluminum gas pedal,Mallory dual point ignition, custom high flow aluminum racing radiator,Mallory fuel pump and custom oil cooler.

  • 4)Tilton dual master brake assembly installed complete with aluminum pedal assembly

  • 5)Ford heavy duty 5 speed full syncromesh transmission and modified bell housing with heavy duty competition clutch installed.

  • 6)Five point harness system, external battery cutoff switch, fuel pump safety cutoff switch, auxilliary tachometer, fuel pressure and water temperature hages also installed. All original gages are there and will work if connected.

  • 7)Hi-torque starter installed and oversize front brake calipers installed.New Koni shocks come with the car but have not been installed yet.

  • 8)Stainless steel dual exhaust with custom racing headers installed.

  • 9)The 3.4 motor is stock.The 3.8 motor has the following modifications:aluminum flywheel,venolia pistons,11/1 compression ratio,rods and caps shotpeened,Isky XM-3 camshafts,1.75 inlet valves,1.625 exhaust valves,crank balanced,bronze guides and teflon seals in a straight port S type head

  • 10)VIN# is S831352DN-This was one of the last XK150 roadsters made by Jaguar with a 3.4 litre motor and overdrive transmission. The car was manufactured in early 1961 which was the first year for the XKE models.

  • The car has actual mileage before restoration of 43526 miles. It has never been hit or in an accident on or off the track. The car has 15 races on it since restoration and only two races with the 3.8 litre race motor.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
