Car to be at auction 3/18

    Auction description:
2018 Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction & Rare Number Plates
    Lot 52
    1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe
    Guiding Range: $85,000 - $95,000

    Exceptional Jaguar XK150 Fixed-Head Coupe 3.8 litre
    Older, high quality restoration
    Upgraded to manual overdrive

Imported from specialists California Jag in Los Angeles by the current Australian owner in 1990, this exceptional Jaguar XK150 underwent a ground-up restoration to a very high standard over a number of years. Completed in 1996/1997, the rebuild included painting the car in British Racing Green and re-trimming the interior in tan leather upholstery, along with all new rubbers, windscreen and trim. All parts were either replaced or restored as necessary and the chrome re-done, including the bumpers. Originally a 3.8-litre car with Borg-Warner automatic transmission, the gearbox was replaced with a period-correct and reconditioned manual overdrive unit sourced from John Needham, along with a new clutch. The motor itself was fully rebuilt, the carburettors overhauled and the cooling and electrical systems completely gone through, including a rebuild of the radiator. The brakes were overhauled with new discs, the master cylinder re-sleeved, the calipers rebuilt and new lines and hoses fitted, while other notable features include a stainless steel exhaust, Koni shock absorbers all round and 16-inch chrome wire wheels. Maintained by the same specialist Jaguar mechanic for the past 20 years and driven sparingly (covering just 3,850 miles since completion), the XK150 remains in excellent running and driving condition. The quality of the rebuild speaks for itself - although over two decades old, the paint, upholstery and trim are all in lovely condition, with a light patina. Having cherished the Jaguar for almost 30 years, the owner - a retired pilot from the NSW Central Coast - has reluctantly decided to let it go. Currently registered in NSW until July 2018, the car will be supplied with extensive notes detailing the restoration work carried out, a receipt file and copies of the original import papers.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
