The Interior
Beautifully presented red interior
The leather is showing the warm patina of gentle use
Excellent matching red carpets
The bright red interior is eminently suited to the flamboyant nature of this XK150. It is indulgent without being decadent. The red leather upholstery is very well preserved, with signs of light use but no damage that we could see. With well padded seating and leather extending on to the door cards and dashboard, this Jaguar’s interior is certainly a luxurious place to be.
Matching red carpets continue the theme, and are also trimmed in red leather. They are clean and tidy, with a thick pile. There are two small rear seats for occasional use, or ideally suited as extra luggage capacity.
The driver is presented with a large string wheel, wrapped in a leather cover, which sits in front of the leather-trimmed dashboard. Instruments are arranged symmetrically in the centre of the dashboard and they provide the driver with plenty of information on the condition of the car.
To the rear, there is a cavernous boot which is fully lined and has plenty of space for luggage, while the bootlid is supported by a sturdy strut.
The Exterior
Sleek XK styling
Wraparound curved windscreen
Stylish drophead coupé body
Continuing the styling of its predecessors, the XK150 is a beautifully styled car, with the smooth line of the wings running front to rear and the slender bonnet ending in that distinctive teardrop-shaped grille.
The body panels look good and are finished in fetching white paint. This paint is in generally good condition, with a few blemishes here and there, as you would expect to see on a car which has been driven.
Weather protection is provided by the drophead hood, which raises to provide snug accommodation. It is showing some signs of wear, with the headlining being a little threadbare and there is a small area of the hood fabric which has worn through. There is a cover which neatly hides the hood when lowered.
The car’s chrome trim looks very well presented, with a deep shine and little evidence of pitting that we could find. The lamp lenses are clear and bright and the chrome wire wheels look apart. We’re told that the vendor has replaced any worn tyres with new ones.
Underneath, the car appears to have been undersealed at some point, but it has picked up a few bumps and scrapes over the years. There is a little corrosion which can be seen, and some of the rubber bushes are a little perished.
The Mechanics
3.4-litre straight-six XK engine
Five-speed gearbox
Said to run without fault
The 3.4-litre XK engine which lies under the bonnet of this Jaguar is a supremely capable unit and is said to run perfectly. The vendor informs us that it is regularly driven and that it has been fitted with a five-speed gearbox. We’re told that the radiator and hoses have been replaced.
Just like the exterior of the car, the engine bay of an XK150 is a pleasure to look at. The polished aluminium of the twin camshaft covers gleams invitingly, the two S.U. carburettors sit proudly to the side of the engine, and the car even retains an original glass screenwash bottle.
