Car being offered by Cooper Classic Cars.

Sellers description:
1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 DHC
Virgin Two Owner car
58,000 original miles
Chassis # S838847 DN
Engine # VA1812-9

This 1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 DHC is Black with a red leather interior and white top. It is a two owner car with 58,459 original miles. Original cars are highly sought after in the market today, and this is a very nice and virginal example of an XK150 DHC with the desirable 3.8 engine. A matching numbers car with original paint, interior, carpeting, convertible top, etc. We purchased the car from the second owner who had the car sitting for some time. Our expert Jaguar mechanic inspected and tuned the car. A new stainless steel exhaust system was installed as well as new brakes, and the car runs and drives well. Original Owner's manual is included. Overall this is a wonderful opportunity to own one of the most desirable Jaguars in virginal and original condition.

Would like to know what happened after she was sold by Cooper Classics. Correction, the car was in the barn for 25 years, when taken out, it was if she had been stored for a month. Oh, I still have that old Super 8 Sound System etc.

It was confused with 834369 but that was clearly wrong and the numbers shown in the pics above are correct

Yes the Old Girl had the original Engine(Don't know who Anonymous is).

Sellers description:
Jaguar XK150 3.8 DHC LHD
This delightful car is a very original XK150 Drophead Coupe with the desirable 3.8 Litre engine.
Completed on 17th May 1960 it was built in left hand drive but being a Personal Export Delivery car it was initially registered in Coventry with the number 5754DU. The first owner, a Mr F W Frost of Jackson New Hampshire, collected the car from Coventry and used it for a European driving tour before shipping it back to the United States in the autumn of 1960.
Over the following decades the car was very carefully maintained and subsequently dry stored by its second owner for 25 years. The next change in ownership took place in 2009 when the car moved to South Carolina before being imported to the UK in 2011 at which time it received a thorough overhaul by JD Classics.
The car has subsequently benefitted from extensive cosmetic work including a recent re-trim and re-paint and accordingly now presents beautifully in the factory-original Black with Red interior. With just over 58,000 original miles this remarkable car offers a wonderful opportunity to acquire a few-owner, highly original, professionally restored XK150 which retains its original Coventry registration number. All Numbers Match to the vehicle's factory data sheet. An ideal candidate for JD Sport upgrades.

The reason the car was in the barn was, for repair work. Mechanic stowed his cars and everything else behind the Jag and could not get the car out. When shifting to second, the gears were grinding, the transmission was to have been repaired and breaks replaced, recently found that the transmission was replaced, not repaired. Trying to find transmission as mechanic left storage areas filled with vintage cars, parts and all sorts of collections after he vacated the barn. Very interesting person, Engineer, Classically trained Guitarist, Piano, Mensa,  hoarder, 100% memory retention, never wrote anything  done, he will be missed.

Lot 299

1960 Jaguar XK 150 3.8 Drophead Coupé

Sold For €102.000

Inclusive of applicable buyer's fee.RM | Sotheby's - ESSEN 11 - 12 APRIL 2019

Chassis S 838847 DN rolled off the Browns Lane production line in May 1960 with the desirable 3.8-litre engine and manual overdrive gearbox. The car was built in left-hand-drive configuration but as a personal export car, it was initially registered in Coventry as ‘5754 DU’. The car’s first owner, Mr F.W. Frost, of New Hampshire, collected the car personally and embarked on a European driving tour before eventually returning to the U.S. in the autumn of 1960.

Over the course of the following decades the car led a sheltered life, being dry stored for some 25 years by its second owner before moving to South Carolina in 2009 and eventually returning to the UK in 2011. Pictures of the car in 2009 show that it was in remarkably original condition. The car has subsequently been re-painted and re-trimmed in the original colour combination and benefits from a full mechanical overall by a well-known UK Jaguar specialist.
