1961 Jaguar XK 150 FHC

This beautiful 1961 Jaguar Coupe is the last and largest of the XK's ever made. This 150 features a highly desirable 3.8 liter engine and four speed Moss Gearbox with an overdrive unit for effortless driving. A bare metal restoration in the 90's has held up well. We have full photo documentation and receipts.

This car is presented for sale as a rust free specimen with mechanical needs. Due to long term storage, without use, the fuel system and carburetors need rebuilding. Our inspection noted some areas that also need attention including brakes, suspension, and engine peripherals. These repairs are estimated to be in the $10-15K dollar range to make the car reliable and safe.

This 1961 Jaguar XK150 is a left-hand-drive Fixed Head Coupe that was manufactured on October 6, 1960 and dispatched to the US later that month for distribution through Jaguar Cars in New York. Finished from the factory in Carmen Red over a Biscuit leather interior, the car is powered by its numbers-matching 3.8L DOHC inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. A refurbishment was carried out by Dragone Classic Motorcars of Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1989, and the car was purchased by the seller from Donovan Motorcar Service in Lenox, Massachusetts in 2013. Additional mechanical work performed from 2014 to 2019 is said to have included rebuilds of the gauges, carburetors, and cylinder head as well as servicing the brakes, suspension, electrical and fuel systems, and other components. This XK150 is offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, records from the 1989 work and from 2013 to present, 1960s dash plaques, and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name. The car was originally delivered in Carmen Red and received a bare-metal repaint in 1989. Features include Lucas fog lamps, a driver-side mirror, and an optional hood ornament. The lenses, grille, glass, and badges are shown up close in the photo gallery below, with several chips and blemishes noted in the finish.

Chrome 16″ Dayton wire wheels are mounted on splined hubs and were installed in 1989, though they now show pits and peeling. BFGoodrich Silvertown tires date from the same time period and should be replaced due to age. A matching spare is mounted under the trunk floor, and a sixth wheel also included in the sale. A new brake servo, master cylinder, stainless steel lines and hoses, handbrake components, rotors, and pads have been installed under the seller’s ownership, as have replacement shocks, rear springs, bushings, U-joints, and steering rack mounts. The interior was reupholstered in Biscuit leather during the 1989 refurbishment and features a matching dash and door panels as well as lighter carpets. A new wiring harness, pedal covers, and vent gaskets were installed under the seller’s ownership, and the heater core, blower, and windshield wiper motor were rebuilt. A crack is noted in the leather dash cover, and additional wear can be seen in the gallery.

Smiths gauges include a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a clock that was rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments of Mamaroneck, New York as well as readouts for fuel level, amperage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer is said to have been reset in 1989 and shows just under 3k miles. Total mileage is unknown. The numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline-six features twin SU carburetors and was factory-rated at 220 horsepower. Service performed under the seller’s ownership included the following:

Valves, guides, springs replaced

Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan shrouds replaced

Battery and cables replaced

Air cleaner and hoses replaced

Distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires replaced

Starter, generator, and carburetors rebuilt

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive that was rebuilt in 1989. New clutch cylinders and hydraulic lines were installed under the seller’s ownership. Additional maintenance performed since 2013 included a replacement of the fuel pump, sending unit, filter, lines, and protective shield as well as the engine, transmission, and overdrive mounts. The fuel tank was also cleaned and powder-coated.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
