__ RESTORATION __ Completed September 2011.
Exceptional car which was comprehensively restored by well known Jaguar specialist Sean Johnson of Austin Healer/Elite Restorations. Documentation available. The body off restoration is complete and extensive. Body was taken to bare metal, fitted to perfection, interior trimmed in the beautiful New Blue color. The interior was completely renewed with the correct materials to the correct patterns. It is in a spectacular color combination of Pearl Grey exterior and New Blue interior that accents nicely with the New Blue Leather interior and carpet. Canvas Roof is also New Blue with matching Tonneau cover. Chrome work re-plated to show level and all hardware panels in proper finish.
__ Following are notes by the restorer __
__ ENGINE __
The engine was completely rebuilt and the pistons are the correct 9:1 compression ratio. When I took it apart it had been fitted with 8:1 pistons. The 9:1 pistons are not available so I had a set made. (veniola SP?) I believe the engine is .030 for the bore and .10 on the main and rod bearings. The cams are to stock grind.
The carbs and the electric aux. carb were all rebuilt and the carbs were fit with new throttle shafts at that time. Every aspect performs as it should and the operation of the electric choke is as per new. New fuel pumps and all of the fuel lines are new and the fuel tank and sender are new.
__ DIFFERENTIAL __
The rear axle for your car is a 3.54:1 Thorton Power-Lock. Normally all of the cars with O/D would have been fitted with a 4.09:1 gear set in either open or power-lock configuration. The fact that your car has a 3.54 diff would seem to indicate that it was special ordered that way. This was commonly called a continental gear set. The metal dash housing that holds the gauges and switches behind the wood panel was always marked with the gear ratio and the car body number. Yours was so marked and the gear set written was 3.54. The speedo for the 4.09 geared cars is a different part number than the one for the 3.54 cars. Your car is fitted with the correct speedo for a 3.54 car. This threw me at first when I took the car apart, but as this is not the first 150 I have taken to bits, I'm sure that yours was and is original. Certainly, all of the US spec cars with O/d would have the 4.09 gear set. The 3.54 gear set makes this a great highway car with exceptionally long legs and a fairly high top speed. It should get considerably better fuel economy as well. This is a very unusual specification and may be unique to this car.
__ MANUAL OVERDRIVE __
The overdrive was completely rebuilt with all new parts. I would mention that this is about the best early Jaguar gearbox that I have ever come across. The ease at which the car can be up-shifted and downshifted is AMAZING.
__ CHASSIS __
The chassis itself is the original to the car, all of the wearing parts of the suspension have either been rebuilt or replaced with new parts. The chassis was completely stripped, sand blasted and painted. All of the suspension parts were powder coated (the English call this "stove enamelling")
__ WIRING __
A new wiring harness of the correct pattern with the correct type wires was fit. All of the gauges were rebuilt, the speedo was not reset for total mileage. Most of the electrical parts are the original date coded parts. Fitted with two 6-volt batteries.
__ BRAKES __
As far as the brakes go... anyone who is anywhere familiar with Jags will know that this car is fit with square brake pads (this is a plus, the round pads are a real bitch). All the rotors are new as are the masters and the all of the brake lines, solid and flex. You had indicated the calipers had been rebuilt and I have no reason to doubt it. The car is fit with a new servo reserve tank and the servo functions perfectly. The square pads and the reserve tank are correct to this car.
Engine pulls strongly and registers perfect oil pressure.
Goal of completed restoration was to maintain original specifications to experience as intended by the factory.
There are two upgrades. Stainless steel wire wheels on AVON bias ply tyres. Stainless steel exhaust.
Includes Operating, Maintenance And Service Handbook. Maintenance Chart.
Has complete tool kit with roll. Tecalemit GC 3020 grease gun. Jack with nine dimple pressed foot with black foam pad for jack arm.

__ HISTORY OF NUMBERS PRODUCED FOR THE ENGLISH MARKET __
According to Philip Porter there were only 76 some odd recorded sales of RHD cars for the UK market.
__ 1958 __
19 cars produced 820001 through 820019
11 cars delivered to UK market, 6 cars to "S" spec, 5 cars to SE spec
__ 1959 __
47 cars produced
24 cars produced to 3.4 ltr spec 820020 -820042 and 820046
23 cars produced to 3.8 ltr spec 820043-820045 and 820047-820066
42 cars delivered to UK market, 40 cars to "S" spec, 2 cars to SE spec
There is no breakdown of 3.4 vs 3.8 "S" spec in 1959 for UK delivery. I simply guessed based on 1958 ratios. If the ratio were the same as 1958 for home deliveries then 3.4's could have been as low as 12 cars to a maximum of all 24 sold. So there could have been a minimum of 8 cars (since I can confirm at least 2 "S's" in 1959 820021 and 820046) to a maximum of 30 home market 3.4 'S' spec cars. The figure of 30 assumes that the entire production of RHD 3.4's were all UK sales and that all of them were to "S" spec. I highly doubt either to be the case. From Porters information 5 rhd cars were delivered to some other RHD market, again, there is no indication how many of each went where. (3.4 vs. 3.8)
__ 1960 __
27 cars produced 820067-820093
23 cars delivered to UK market, according to Porter all were SE (Philip Porter states 22 in 1960 and 1 in 1961, no 150 rhd roadsters were actually built after Oct. 1960)

The car was media blasted to bare metal and then primed with PPG DP epoxy primer. I used PPG catalyzed hi build primers and sealed with DP epoxy reduced as a sealer. Topcoats were in PPG Concept catalyzed polyurethane enamel. The car was topcoated 3 coats and then blocked with 600 grit and then final topcoats with concept and polished. Only 2 RHD 150S roadsters are in the US, yours, (T820041DN) and a 3.8 (T820074DN) in California. With the exception of the other four cars all of the remaining cars are in the British Isles.

1959 Jaguar XK 150S 3.4 OTS
Chassis no. T820041D/N
Engine no. VS1999-9
This right-hand drive 1959 XK150S is one of the rarest open roadster variants made, being one of only 40 cars built to 'S' specification for the home market that year and one of just 16 powered by the 3.4-liter version of the XK motor. According to the Heritage Certificate, chassis T820041DN also had the optional Overdrive transmission and was originally finished in Pearl with Light Blue upholstery and black top. Completed on May 1, 1959, the car was dispatched via Henly's on May 13 and carried the registration number 105 HBH, a plate issued in Luton, Buckinghamshire just two days hence. The chain of ownership dates back to 1965 and the car is known to have resided in England until 1984, when the previous owner took the XK150S to Canada. The current long-term owner, based in the Pacific Northeast, acquired the Jaguar in 1985 and has been its custodian for the past 26 years.
According to the extensive history file that accompanies the Jaguar, it was comprehensively restored by the highly respected marque specialist Sean Johnson at Austin Healey/Elite Restorations whose impeccable work has been lauded both in awards won at shows and above market prices fetched at auction. The through restoration process involved stripping the body back to bare metal and repainting it in spectacular Pearl Grey. The interior was professionally reupholstered in New Blue leather with matching carpets, the top received new canvas in matching New Blue and a new tonneau cover, and all of the chrome was fully refurbished.
Mechanically the engine was rebuilt with 9:1 compression ratio pistons, the carburetors overhauled, and the transmission completely refreshed with all new parts. Power is funneled through a special Power Lok differential geared to 3.54, instead of the standard 4.09, and overdrive is manually actuated, rather than electronically, a combination that was likely ordered with high speed cruising in mind given the 'long legs' the tall ratio and overdrive provide. The electrical system was redone with a new wiring harness; the gauges were rebuilt, the braking system was fitted with new rotors, lines, square pads, masters, and a new servo reserve tank all correct to this car. The only deviations from the original factory specification are the stainless wire wheels fitted with Avon bias ply tires, and the stainless steel exhaust system.
Completed in September 2011, the owner's stated goal was to "maintain original specifications" according to the manufacturer's intentions and reports the "engine pulls strongly and registers perfect oil pressure". The car comes with a correct and complete tool kit, Tecalemit grease gun and a jack, as well as literature including an operating, maintenance and service Handbook, and Maintenance Chart.
Estimate:
US$ 120,000 - 150,000

It seems like the car is now back in the UK; UK road tax valid until 1 Dec 2014. Registration number could be on another Jaguar, but the data held by DVLA all agrees (date of first registration 14 May 1959).
