Considerable history of the car is provided in the July 2013 edition of the XK Gazette. Peter's comment about the registration is proven.

Originally registered in Rotherham to get the private registration AET9 for the first owner Audrey Evelyn Trafford who lived somewhere south of London (hence the supplying dealer ) and retained the registration number. I bought and fully restored the car between 1987 and about 1999 selling it in 2004 to James Hull the well known mainly Jaguar collector who wanted it as a daily driver !
The car was completely standard and matching numbers appart from incorrect original colour combination.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
