car is on Auction: www.classic-auctions.com/Auctions/09-12-2015-ChateauImpney-1394/1960JaguarXK150S ...

    Description:

Completed on 5th July 1960, chassis T827610 was supplied new via Ritchies of Glasgow. Initially road registered as '400 BGD', the identity of its first keeper is not recorded. Belonging to David Sydney Gordon Esq. of Ludlow (a doctor who also served as Surgeon Lieutenant Commander to the Royal Naval Reserve) by the 1970s, the Jaguar is known to have passed through the hands of Richard de la Rue Esq, John Henry Wright Esq, Kurt Kauk Esq, Philip Scott Esq and renowned dealer JD Classics before entering the current ownership. The earliest MOT certificate on file suggests that the XK150 'S' 3.8 litre had covered some 59,000 miles by November 1979. Some thirty-six years later, its odometer shows an unwarranted (1)06,565 miles. Pleasingly retaining its original Suede Green leather upholstery, the Drophead Coupe had its factory-applied British Racing Green livery renewed during Mr Kauk's custodianship (1984-2010).

Entrusted to marque specialist Marina Garage of Bournemouth for a new clutch (2011) and thorough engine overhaul (2012) whilst in Mr Scott's care, chassis T827610 was advertised by JD Classics as a 'matching numbers example' and 'a presentable and very sound, original car which would be ideal for touring or rallying'. The vendor has certainly enjoyed several memorable jaunts aboard the Jaguar and is only offering it for sale due to the acquisition of a very rare prewar MG. Further enhanced during his tenure, recent fettling has seen the XK150 S 3.8 litre treated to a new sump gasket, re-plated ash tray and replacement servo / master cylinder for its uprated braking system etc.

    100-point body off restoration. Chassis # T827610DN

Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this rare matching-numbers example of an XK 150 3.8 S DHC, which was originally supplied by Ritchies of Glasgow on 5th August 1960 to Mr David Gordon. In 1981 he sold the car to Richard De La Rue.

This ultra-rare 1960 XK150 3.8S DHC, has had just 5 custodians from new, with the first keeper owning her for 23 years. Hexagon Classics embarked on a 100-point £166,000 body-off restoration in its original colour scheme by Jaguar marque experts, not forgetting the Pumpkin orange cylinder head unique to this model. Variable power steering and Pirelli Cincurato CA67 tyres have has also been added to greatly enhance the driving experience.

This utterly beautiful XK 150S is now complete and would be ideal for touring or rallying.

    Seller's description:

    Jaguar XK150 3.8 S 1960 Road (U48) £190,000

CKL are thrilled to offer this 1960 Jaguar XK150 S RHD, 1 of 69 cars built.

Finished in British Racing Green with Suede Green Vaumol Hide.

Recently restored with no expense spared with over £160,000 spent on the restoration.

At launch in 1957, the XK150 would be the final model of the XK series and would see a host of upgrades over its predecessors. Boasting all-round disc brakes, it provided the edge over most available production cars of the time. While the highly successful 3.4 litre Jaguar straight six engine provided ample power and proved to be a worthy powerhouse, Jaguar would install the 3.8 litre straight six in 1960. The newly installed 3.8 litre would launch the XK150 to the top of the class with 220 bhp, however, Jaguar didn’t stop there. A second option, the “S” variant was available and with further tuning providing 265 horses under the bonnet and a top speed of 135 mph. Only 69 of these “S” variants were ever built as right-hand drive dropheads, therefore, the XK150S has become a highly desirable and very usable classic in today’s world.

This matching numbers Jaguar XK150 X 3.8 DHC has been subject to restoration works costing in excess £160,000 between 2016 and 2017. The history folder includes ownership details, MoTs from the 1970s and 1980's and MoT history from 2009 to 2019, restoration receipts dating between 2016 and 2017 totalling around £164,000, Heritage certificate and EZ electric power steering instructions. The current mileage reading is 8,154.
